There is some good theory about this here and here by Rod Elliot.
The nicest advantage in my own personal experience is that the sound "balance/voicing", stays the same for any given power level. The urge to turn the volume up because my system sounds better that way is greatly deminished. Less important if you don't have neighbors of course. The high SPL/dynamics tends to impress the non-hi-fi types more than any other aspect of musical reproduction also.........IMO
