I have to make a big thank you to Ace like many of us here, I was and still going to make my projector. but due to work load on my course I have to hold off abit.
But Ace has answered lots via email and MSN, he has been teaching like many others about optic's.
As remarks about how long this thread is, If you read it from begining to end, Ace has tryed many new things to increase light etc, so we have learned from his new ideas.
So to ACE THANK YOU!!!

humm as I said
I was curious in reading this thread, I had participated in quite a few threads long time ago....
I have build 3 projectors, but they are too bulky in my opinion. I was hoping to see something more interesting here but helas.
I am now going the "82 volts fxl light bulb" way , very compact.
I had asked the opinion on a thread in the past but got no reactions. I am going to do some more research myself and see how to use a 82 v FXL in combination with 115 volts, prabably like the original dukane or infocus with some aluminum housed resistors and a lot of heat dissipated. It should not be a difficult schematic.
I think that this way I could keep it very compact, or at least much more compact than before!
I have no idea what you mean with color graphics.... could you explain?
By the way those who live in WA , don't forget to go to Boeing Surplus store for materials (plexy, aluminum, alloy steel, titanium etc at ridiculous prices!!!) Also on friday they had just put about 50 ohp's 3M model 9800 , if i remember, in the store at about $75 a piece.

uvodee, it's great to see you back posting again. I really liked your earlier work and DIY Projectos wouldn't be where they are today if it wasn't for some of the things you did, Thanks.

Re: Re: humm as I said
thanks.
As I stated earlier, and just decided after mounting an fxl in a ceramic socket and using a traditionnal dimmer, which in my opinion needs a small change , I have to finish this project now, let's say within 3 weeks. I do not believe in milking time, time is like a cracked actor you know.
I am looking, without prejudisme for a high quality lcd between 5 and 7.4 "
As you know, I am as dumb as the earth you walk on, so my guess is that with a few 'simple' add on's the result will be astonishing, just as my earlier work, ofcourse this time much more compact and that is my goal now.
I have quite a few ohp's here that have electrical problems, some of them missing a lot of parts, but the optics are mostly intact. I am starting, right now, to check them out multiple combination with the fxl and a b/w photo negative 6 cm by 6 cm (from my hasselblad) mounted in an aluminum/wooden frame surrounded by photoboard.
Don't expect any working with mirrors from me, it is MY feeling that they should NOT be included in my DIY as I think, i canllive with one straight tube, let it be square, rect

Ofcourse I will post all my findings with documents as well as pictures so that I cannot be marked as not collaborative or open in my findings!
I think the fxl will work pretty good with an "off the shelf" dimmer (so actually the 82 volts fxl does not im- or explodes , the light is remarkable and seems to be a piece of cake to trace and focus (done some tests a few minutes ago!)
My goal is to mount it in an enclosure that is not more than 9 inches in diameter and not mroe than 12 inches long .Preferably thin aluminum. I will give myself not any slack by adding that everything, including ps for the lcd should be incorporated as well as cooling units which I think I will go with some Peltier element, i have a few laying around, provided it does not cause condensation , otherwise I could go with 2 fo the many fans, using them to bring on cool air and remove heated air. !
I will start a new thread with my documented RESULTS / findings

Heya uvodee, what going on with your messages? i can report this to the other modds if you would like, i dont see how this can happen though not unless there was some kind of an error.
Thanks for mentioning to start another thread also, it helps cut down confusion in here on working with my design🙂
nice to hear the fxl idea works too besure to make a thread up on your design and post up a few screen shots.

Hey man 🙂
I can assure ya that no mod has modified your post... we have rules that note that if we modify any post, we have to place our information in the post and our username. (this can be tracked if we don't...)
It's probably just a computer glitch. I've had something similar happen to me on another forum once before.
I'm glad you reposted it... as opposed to me... lol I'd end up giving up... hehe You posted something relatively long 🙂

Heya moi, sorry i didnt realise it was 40euro lol, ill re read your email regarding this and decide soon, im not real sure if ill have a use for it but i can never have enough parts laying around to experiment with.
For the focal, look through the lens from say 30cm from your eye to the front of the lens and at the same time lift the lens up from a table until the image just goes to the blur, measure that and thats the rough focal.

Re: when using plans
This post shouldn't belong here. By simply reading a couple of posts in this thread, you can see that he's only providing the information... SO, if someone DID want to replicate his projector, they can....
There are different levels of DIY Video... Hell I bought an overhead projector, and an lcd panel... is that DIY? Should I consult a manual to determine the level of difficulty before determinning if i'm doing a DIY project? or?
Buying parts from a pre made plan and assembling them yourself is still DIY.... since DIY means, "Do it Yourself" should we break down what exactly is being "done yourself"? we all have different contexts to this...
I mean hey, why not create the optics yourself, build your own ballast, and your own lightbulb? ALSO, build your own lcd panel... It's not DIY because your using a samsung lcd panel, you should be using your own.

uvodee said:that someone else developped by experimenting for about 8 months ( as I understand) it is not DIY anymore, it .. willl be... in the future..... an assembly process without the original diy spirit.
that's what I think, the video threads have been going on for a long time now and in sept 2002 I made 3 projectors in a row based on several ideas and with innovation that came from this site as well as from myself ......
I have no clue what ace is doing, the more i read, the less i comprehend the whole adventure he is having, at least, it is very funny for him, there is a lot of lol going on!
I also think, i have a strange hunch, that there are at least 2 fundamental flaw in ace's design, I have seen some of it in other people's designs and calculations such as diameter, distance, throw distance etc... and when I told them about it, they got mad ????????
alo I have a problem, because of the spirit and intention of this forum, that someone could be shamelessly promoting commercial activities that belong on Ebay or other commercial distribution channels.
I made and sold the 3 priojectors but I would never, NEVER,!!!! put them out on a DIY forum in order to make money! That my friends, I think, is despicable!
just my 2 (old) Belgian franks!

hey multiplexor
too true,
it takes a bit more than the ability to read plans in order to construct any device.
all many of us are trying to do is 'piggy back' the extensive research ace has done.
why shouldn't he charge - after all he has put an awful lot of effort into the project.
lets be frank i dont think he will retire from the sales he is generating!!!

p.s i hope u get the idea as these pics sux bigtime! lol and for some reason its yellow instead of white. also this pic was taken with no tripod so the blur is from my shacking hand.
heya trev,
i'm back with results u where interested in. bulb is a HTI 150 W.
throw distance: 3,5 m = 11,5 ft
screen: black out roller blind from home depot, size (width 1,6m= 5 1/4 ft, long 1,8 m = approx 6ft)
screen diagonal: 2m = 6 1/2 ft)
pics taken w/o tripod. i haven't work on the pics but minimize them to 800x600.
the darker area come from a splintered pyrex-glass. it was tightened w a screw became hot so it cracks and the foil between got a brownish color. i'll replace.
real colors are better than it appear on the pics.
have a big thx for the inspiration you gave me in this thread.

Uvodee, if you feel harased then leave, there is no individual in here harasing you, you brought that on yourself. As for your free speach, well it certainly is, an insulting free speech at that, and imo with manny acusations. This is a forum uvodee, it is globally, it is not the usa nor any other country, so what you say in your country in a rude manner as far as im concernd stays there. These wild acusations and rude coments are not welcome in this forum nor in this thread and i will not repotiously put up with them. I hope soon you calm down and wake to you senses.

Thanks for the support and the point of veiw, its the way that i see things also. If there was plans around when i first got into projectors i certainly would have bought them, i could have been building somthing else by now lol. Hey Johnny did you order your lamp buddy?
Guys a small update, the mirror is on its way, it should be here next week, i phoned the optical company up and they said next week it will be at my door. The frensels ive had no answers on, this place has a bad comunication level, if this is still the case by the end of this week, i will dump them and go to my backup source.
What have i been doing the past few days?, well prior to the past few days ive been too busy to do anything lol, as you are now aware i am now a new modderator in the forum to help mutiplextor out, to help keep this place organised, and to keep it a happy environment. So ive had to learn alot in the past couple of weeks to get upto speed on how things work here. Dont stress guys modd's are here to help, not to help them selfs, we are all cool down here and lets keep it this way. But if you have any problems besure to contact a forum moderator, and help will be on its way. In the last couple of weeks ive had abit of night shift work also so thats taken up most of my time.
Now in the last couple of days ive gone somewhere, im making the new light box. The new light box is being fabricated because we have 7mm of space that needs to be used and insulated from heat. Just a small resizing was the go and ive actually changed a couple of things to make it easier for you guys. Ive cut down on the number of holes for starters cos the ends of the louvers wer covering some holes up, these dont make any effect on cooling performance and cant be used, so ive left those out and we will get no heat gain there, and it saves us work.
I have a new idea in mind where we may not need to drill any holes, i will be making a test model up hopfully tomorrow of this and we will see how well it blocks light , and to see if we get a difference in cooling performance, once again this saves us much work. If i choose the later design wich i will know in a day or 2, the light box should be able to be fabricated in just 1day. With the 1st design with all of the holes it takes 3days to fabricate, these times include paint drying times and covering the outer skin with the fancy covering. I have drawn the plans for the light engine also in this time, ive implimented a center line for you guys to draw so you can line your optics up perfectly to this line. Doing it this way your optics will be perfectly aligned on your first start up, and wont require any further alignment, this makes things easier for you guys and keeps all of the optics acurate.
After this light box is finnished i have just a small modd to do then i will have the final sizes on the lcd unit, i will draw up the plan and then make a new lcd unit ( just the housing not the light engine as thats made ) . Then the side peice i will bend, cut out a couple of holes for the fans and the lens, mount and wire the sockets, then the fun old job of polishing lol. There is still abit to go but this is fast work. The lcd unit has to be spot on and is the part that takes the longest to build, it will however take you guys not long at all as you dont have to document everything and draw up plans at the same time.
I predict that if you wer to make an exact copy it would take between 3-4weeks, it seems a long time but that 3-4weeks goes fast when your hard at it. This will also depend on your skills, i think i could make one of these now in 1-2weeks, but i know this model and construction technique off by heart. The way ive made this design is so that you make the parts separate and all should fall into place ( this was implimented for you guys only ). The plans wont be wrong and wont have any sizing flaws, my advice is just to be as acurate as you can be and all will fall into place.
Ill be keeping you guys posted

These lilliputs are great for pictures arent they? ive tested mine out on alot of pics and they came out great, crystal clear, nice colouring too.
Great job buddy and keep up the good work.

Nice screen shots buddy i see you got yourself a nice result, the cams on these screen shots realy dont do it justice, i know what yours would look like in real life, possibly 3x brighter thats for sure. These lilliputs are great for pictures arent they? ive tested mine out on alot of pics and they came out great, crystal clear, nice colouring too.
Great job buddy and keep up the good work.

hey ace
thanks for the update.
yep waiting on lilliput and lighting kit both - ex your 'parts' site. Just sold my projection panel setup to raise funds (used it to test the initial theory)!!
without distracting, you mentioned you would probably be looking at an upgraded model on completion of this one.
would this be a completely new design or are you looking looking to incorporate new features into your current model??
