first i've got to say: NIIICCCCEEEE WOOOORRRKKKKK U DID THERE!! fantastic design and parts. Could u show us some results, as i didn't find any in the "post ur results" thread. if the projected pictures look as good as the design, they have to be awesome!!! can't wait to see those...

WHOAAAA!!!!! slize u are still alive lol wondering what ever happend to u, i take it u took a break from it for a while, anyway good to see u are back, thanks for the nice coments buddy its slowly getting there ive been abit held up in parts and my cams not liking screen shots , its got somthing to do with the freq of my light and the shutter speed of the cam, well atleast thats what i narrowed it down to, but other then that it projects very sharply and is very bright, thers been a few in here that could do with your help on the eye glass lens idea, somthing i havnt had time for so u would be the man for that, anyway buddy looking forward to seeing more of u in the future and hope to catch up soon.

I think your results so far are so nice and neat, that I ordered myself one of those little lcd's

As I said ace, keep it nice and easy, dont rush things, and stuff will work out fine!

Great buddy good stuff, although i havnt tested the lcd with a split frensel from diy labs and im not sure if it will work cos the frensel does have to be cut down and when u cut a frensel down it lenthens the focal so u may have some trouble there, also the diylabs triplet will give u a very long throw and thats another reason why i opted for the copy lens, but other then that all should be good, im only going on what gear u have that u have written at the bottom of the post so not sure if u will be using this gear with the 7inch lcd or not, as u say take your time and all will work out well, yeah i dont have much choice, the mail is realy slow, im still missing my gear and ive just been informed that it could be until the middle of feburay before i get my gear, with that being a major hold back ill have to resort and order more gear to get it happening as i know u guys want it finnished just as much as me, not only that i want to start the new projector with my 6inch 800x600 native lcd, the plans on that and what it will be is a secret but if u liked this one im sure u will like the next, the next is more aimed at a gamming theme rather then a prestine work of art lol.

I just want to say no offense but I just looked at your marble pj and I like that a lot if you have plans or something for that one I'm intersted

Heya AZ, no ofense at all, i do have plans for that one but they arent finnished, i dont even have that projector no more, its abit out dated and uses about 6 fans , it ran very solid though without any faults for over 6000hrs of testing and abuse lol (was my guinie pig), im going to remake it but with a make over using this lcd, there is no point in using a 5inch low reso lcd now that prices have come down for the 7inch vga range, also now i have top of the line optics, the optics in that model wernt that hot although it worked great, it will be made over with new tech and better optics and designed to carry this lcd, also a new shape with rounded corners is on the cards, the plans i drew for that one i drew to be made out of wood even though i made the proto out of plexi (because i had plexi at the time laying around spare), with the new design it would be very easy to make, made with 3mm mdf, 2 x 3/4 inch pine beam frames or similar, and the internal lcd unit made for this new projector now but out of mdf and aluminium, the light engine alot easier to make ect, very cheap to make but efective and would project the same as this new plexi one, ive got a few other designs up my sleave and they will wait as i have a tonne of work to do before hand, i always try to finnish a job i started first before going onto the next, and with manny people waiting for plans on this new plexi model its the top priority for the moment, but the wood design will come out very soon after, then im hoping to start my new design on the 6inch lcd i have here, hoping it will win some modding award lol as its a infocus lp220 being rebuilt into a totally new design for a gamers theme.

ace design

hey ace,

talk about deja vous!!

although i will be building a projector based on your design (as its the best i've seen yet), I was also thinking of extensively using wood and aluminium. Aluminium chiefly due to ease of machining its heat dissipation properties (and low weight) 'sandwiched between two pieces of wood (again light , attractive and easy to work with) with aluminium pillars. I've been mooching around our toolshop so the machining aspect is no problem.

Again there wood be great weight loss and improved heat dissipation although it wouldn't dispense with fans and the basic design would still be the same as your makeup.

If you would be prepared to supply some of the basic components like front surface mirrors/split fresnels i think this would be most convenient - as you essentially have first hand
knowledge of the application environment.

Still a little worried about the power supply tho and that lighting kits a bit pricey.

keep it up dude

great work and collaboration...

ace,

the link to the ebay item is a 7" 1024x768 lcd panel, are you using this one or the 800x480 panel you talk about earlier?

also, about the parts that you have mentioned with suppliers, lcd, lamp, lens, would you recommend acquiring them now or might the parts change on the final plans?

Thanks,
Daniel

lens

hey ace

would your setup work with a triplet varifocal lens (275-325FL) - i think it would help focusing greatly, i think brainchild is looking to import for around 25$ - i reckon a good price.

i've got one fitted to a 3m 9550 OHP - its a bloody good lens (if brainchild imports would save me dismantling the OHP or ordering the fujinon copy lens)

what do you reckon in comparison to your fujinon copy lens.

Heya Johnny, i see u are in a machine shop, hmmm u could come in handy, im ordering now the majority of the parts to make it easier for u guys to obtain them, ive got a pile of condensers on their way that are the same as the one in this projector, a piles of reflectors that are not the same as in this projector but will work the same and give the same results, the frensels ill have soon, im working on that bit now and its whats holding me up, asoon as i can get the ones i orderd in for this one ill see how good they are and decide weather or not to sell them and to get a better frensels lens, all of the parts will be brand new and reasonably cheap, they will be garenteed to work as its the same parts that i am using, the parts i wont carry due to saving u guys in shipping costs is the front surface mirror and the copy lens, i do have 3 copy lenses here in europe for those in europe who are interested but they will be abit more then $11 as i had to pay shipping, i also wont carry the lights just as of yet nor the lcd, they are reasonably easily online with the provided links in the previous post, i dont have a very good link for the light in the states, maybe some one who has bout the cdm-t system in the states before could help us out with some pricing, ballast details and some links, all other parts u guys will make from scratch lol or if u cant make somthing let me knoe and ill build the specified unit for u, things like wire and leds, relays ect are found in any electrical shop for next to nothing, as for the psu delema u dont have to have it at the back of the unit if u dont want it there, i put mine there to equal the weight abit so it wouldnt be so front heavy and for my desired looks, u could take the front fan out and use that whole froont area for a psu enclosure with the ballast inside, there is heaps of potentional for this design and i urge u guys to use your imagination also off of the plans, but the plans will give u the right sizes for all of the setup and all of the right angles with tips on how to get them right.

MY idea is I want to combine these two plan with the old one and the new one I like the clean look of the old one with the optics and lcd of this one

Heya AZ, the new wood design will be much nicer, the old one was abit squarish, the new will have large rounded corners, it will look just as neat and can be coverd with anything your imaginion covers.

sorry for the double post but I was also wondering have you devised a way of control a htpc (if that's what you're gonna use with this) and your pj with the same remote control

That could only be done with a 3rd party remote that can read an instruction from a original remote and be programed its comands, u could control your whole hifi, tv, cd player, dvd player, projector u name it with the one remote but not with this one, it doesnt have the learning capabilities and it hasnt got near enough buttons.

heya Dan, thanks for the nice coments, the lcd is the lilliput xga model, its says its xga but its not xga native, its xga compressed, its native resolution is 800x480 so its just a little somthing you have gotten mixed up, but it is the same lcd you are talking about.

also, about the parts that you have mentioned with suppliers, lcd, lamp, lens, would you recommend acquiring them now or might the parts change on the final plans?

Id be getting the copy lens now cos they dont have too manny left lol id get in and get it right now, all parts are and will be the same on the plans there is no doubt about that, the frensel is being worked on and ill have an answer as soon as it gets here and has been tested, the condenser is right, the reflector is right the mirror is right, the projection lens is right so all of the optics is going to be the same on the plans, ive used the best parts for this projector to work in a perfect manner so all is right, a change i might make latter on is the light, the cdm-t is certainly bright enough, but for those who want a 160+inch wide screen image i would say go to the 250w hqi, this will be worked on soon and tested.

what do you reckon in comparison to your fujinon copy lens

as in terms of image quality crap! lol na not that bad, it would be good and it should work no worries although i know it would work dont take my word for it totally as it will have its limitations and as i havnt tested that lens in this setup i cant give a u definitive answer on how well it would work, but it would work yess, the lens clear diameter is abit small though and will eat light, it would be the same quality of an image to the diylabs triplet, although clear not as anywhere near as clear as the copy lens.

Ace, Just a suggestion of leaking plans

Have passworded plans in a zip, using pdf so the plans can't simply be copied out

but also
for each version have a subtle tiny change (e.g. one extra word in each set, or a dot in certain sets, like a different dot colour for each set, but in a place no-one knows)

then keep a log of the people and the colours/changes

then if a set is leaked, just find which version it is and then you know who leaked it 🙂

Hope that helps, btw nice projector plans, seems very complicated, but looks good

sameday

How's things coming along Ace?

Heya buddy how's things? i sent u an email the other week i guess u never got it, the name im not sure of again now as i dont think the theme that im doing on this projector will work to well with the name, ill probally just name this one my company name, but i can tell u that in the last few weeks ive called it a few names while waiting for this gear to arive lol, talking of gear and progress i got my 2 frensels today and cut them down, ive done a couple of small tests and im going to just ajust the light a wee tiny bit to perfect the sides of the image and its all set, my focal was 5mm out of whack on the 2 frensels in total so my calculation didnt work out too bad at all, this week ill be making the part B of the light engine and finnishing off the lcd unit, i didnt get my mylar so ive resorted to a plan B of using the mylar wrapping paper and glueing it to the inside of the pryramid, i guess by using this, manny who want to make the same unit can get the mylar very cheap from any shop, instead of using some special mylar with an adheasive backing thats more or less imposible to find lol, after that all will be mounted to the base plate, then finnishing off the wiring then the side with holes to cut out, there isnt that much to do but with a billion other things going on here and also i was waiting for shipped items, im now way behind , but it should get there now i have the parts.

Have a good one buddy

Kim

Heya Kim, thanks for the great input, i was planing on using the buyers name and address as a password, also with a encryted serial to track down those who default me and the rest of the honest buyers, i want to not have hastles for security for people who will use the plans, as it is its a pain in the rear to install programs that ask for a key and i dont want to have people cheased off from wanting to put in some code all of the time, i could rigg it i supose that the plans will only acept the code once and only work on their ip adress on their comp lol. but it will delay things even further to program that kind of security, either way im not going to have my honest buyers get ripped off buy some scam freeks on ebay, and ill be having that record to track down those who deceive lol.
