Thanks X, that is really good info. Now I'm going to put you on the spot.. Between 0.53x K and XKi/ W5-2143, how much better is the latter (on ACA)? 😀
Btw, I have built one foamie 0.53x K with dual Failtals (2 x 16ohm) and it sounds great! And I haven't even installed the K aperture yet. Ran out of time last night and was too curious.

That's a tough one as I have never built a Karlsonator for the 2143. Glad the dual 3FE25-16's are sounding great. Does it get pretty loud - noticeable sensitivity increase, right?
I am about to get a nice wooden XKi cabinet built by a real a cabinet maker soon and will test it out. Will have more to say then.

Yes, it gets quite a bit louder than my other speakers at the same volume setting. Running it off a TDA7297 amp and B1. This bodes well for the planned ACA's.
The second speaker of the pair was completed last Friday. I've listened to them for most of the weekend and I'm very happy with the sound. There is decent bass and super mids and highs. It sounds wonderful for such small boxes and when I close my eyes, I can imagine listening to much bigger speakers.
The driver plate has a yellowish color because it is made of 3mm Liteply to carry the weight of the two ferrite drivers. It's much stronger than coam core.

Beautiful implementation Skylar! That liteply looks like the wood they use for small airplane models and 3D jigsaw puzzles. Good idea to use it! Glad the sound is living up to expectations. The TDA7297 is an excellent amp - I believe internally it is a quasi complimentary topology, which probably contributes to the nice sound signature.
So you do not actually have an ACA yet then?

No, I don't have ACA's yet. Hope to build it in the next few months. I'm waiting for heatsinks.
You're right. Liteply is used extensively in aeromodeling. That's one of my hobbies and also the reason that I had some on hand. Same with the square spruce that I used to stiffen the driver plate.

Greetings:
I'm in the process of finishing my ACA (scored a pair of boards and some parts at Burning Amp) and was starting the process of looking for an appropriate set of speakers.
I liked the Metronome speakers I saw at BA, but didn't think to ask what was loaded in them. Obviously, the choice of driver will direct the exact dimensions of the Met, and that is what brought me to this thread.
What speakers would sound good in a Met, and still be sensitive enough to provide some punch/volume on an ACA?
If I can't get everything in one speaker (without spending over about $200 on the drivers), I'd prefer a solid top end, and I'll add a sub to fill the bottom at a later time.

It's going to be tough to get 97dB/2.83v sensitivity with any driver on the Met with bass of similar sensitivity that goes to 80Hz. Try this dual 3FE25-16ohms (parallel 8ohms) mini Karlsonator design.
What is an ACA’s performance like at 4Ω?
For single-ended, not so bad. 1% at 5 watts, 3% at 14
This with the 2.2K R15 value, which has a little higher bias.
Metronomes at BAF 2017
KKing,
I had two pair of Metronomes at BAF: an original Metronome with Fostex 127E, and my own Metronome Tributes with MarkAudio Alpair 10.3M.
The Alpair Met Tributes were driven by Nelson's ACA 1.1 front ended by a Dragonfly Red and iPhone. Gain was one notch short of wide full open, and that drove it to a pretty good level in a big, and noisy room. A lot of low bass too. (Earlier in the day they were demo'd with Paul's Not an Amp Camp Amp.)
The Fostex Mets were driven by a Bottlehead Sex Amp. I think the Fostex drivers are several db more efficient than the Alpairs.
The Alpair Met Tributes are my new favorite speaker and I intend to build Amp Camp Amp to drive them as soon as the new kits come out.

Measured A10.3 ~87.5dB, FE127e, ~89dB.
I am currently happily driving 86dB Tysen V2 with ACA.
Alpair 10.3 is still on sale at Madisound for a very good price. Markaudio Alpair-10 Gold 6" Full Range Gen 2. Also available in Silver.

The Alpair 10.3M are really nice drivers, lovely "air" and they go low. (But VERY delicate! I rolled a roll of tape across the cone while fiddling with the vent, and it left a small dent on the cone!)
I wanted to complement Mark Fenlon on the quality of these, but the support@markaudio.com mailbox is full.

Mark may no longer be the guy supposed to monitor that account. I’ll see if i can poke him to see your post.

They don't seem to be updating the MarkAudio website, for instance, the Alpair 5 is not there. I was thinking about a Labyrinth build using the Alpair 5 for gift speakers.
It’s worth noting that the Tysen Dave mentioned is not a single driver system, but a 2-way with a passive higher order crossover. I’ve only ever used the ACAs with either fullrange only, or as mid-tweeter amp in active “FAST” 2-ways. That they can handle a more complex load speaks to excellent design of both the amp and crossovers - some of which can give SET amps the conniptions.

The Mark Audio website has always been mostly MIA.

An A5.2 Baby Lab is a good idea, i’ll poke Scott.

It may be complicated but is only 1st order acoustic.

Thanks for all the wonderful speaker/enclosure ideas. Gonna have to finish the amp build, then save some nickles for some speakers and the wood for a reasonably presentable enclosure (WAF).
Loved Burning Amp as much for the tech as the people. Y'all are great!

Poking isn't necessary. Scott's Labyrinth, (Baby Lab) for the Alpair 5.2 is called the Bloodhound. I don't see many being built on this forum. It looks like an excellent project.
Thanx for that reminder. Too many box designs 🙂 Definitly some verion control issues with those files. I have updated the links.
