Yup, I'm going to build a couple of these. My last build was more challenging, this one should be easy, however I want them to sound intimidating and reasonably good as well as look it. After all I could probably make my refrigerator sound better using it as a cabinet. Yeah I,m bored. too much time to waste..🙂
I have a few ideas as to how to hide the drivers, down firing 12" in the skirt, isobarik mids in the neck, tweet on the eye stalk ..Yeah its goofy and weird, but. If anyone can suggest a way to make em more wacky than they already will be, maybe suggest driver layout and config. I'm all ears...
And no I am not insane, or off my meds...🙂. I just need to do something different...

This is awesome.
The domes at the bottom could be used to house small bass drivers which you could use in a phased array to control directivity down low.
The 'neck' area could house a yuichi shaped (quarter space radial) waveguide behind some mesh.

I dunno about this. The audio from these units is always tinny and distorted - and sometimes quite shrill.
Partly that I'm seeing opportunities to control directivity at various frequencies. I might be missing the point. The details might need some working out though and could get rather involved.

I,m going to start on the chassis this week. That cannot be altered too much. The picture I posted is the version of Daleks I will build, there were many over the years..Its going to be a build from the outside in, I do not expect them to sound as good as the Eckies, close would be good though.. I like the idea of directivity, the neck could easily be articulate, as per the tweet..hmmm. Cheers...

I suggest that you cover the entire contraption with pink unicorn fur. But please use fake ones, it is not nice to hunt down unicorn just to get unicorn fur for your speakers.

Hmm. I don't remember seeing any Daleks when I used to work a couple of hundred yards from that spot!
Lol. I've only seen about 5 episodes of Dr. Who, but the daleks burn an image in the retina. I think that was on a bbcnews article. None of the episodes on ch 50-9 retro tv were that memorable.

I took a lot of grief about these looking too much like Daleks. These were called the Martha's because I used a Martha Stewart cutting board to disperse the LED lights for the top tiers. It's got the equivalent of 100W of LED's, driven by a 3-channel color organ.

Uniquely Whacky love it. I could see how I could get carried away with this build. And yes I think it was here that some one mentioned my last build looked like Daleks, and that has been stuck in my mind ever since, So I thank them not very much..🙂. How do yours sound, happy with them ?. There are a lot of drivers in those..

I made those about 13 years ago. I brought them to DIYDC2009 and then put them in a closet, where they have stayed until I could figure out a better way to do the DSP. They actually sound very promising, but the crossover needs work...
The crossover was done using the biquads buried in a 6-channel XBOX Spherex amp (STA308 chip). All of the control code was written in assembly language (68HC08) and I never got the motivation to swap out the controller and DSP with something more modern. But I'll get back to it some day.
The wiring allows reversing the phase of the drivers in the back, so it can be played in omni-directional or dipole mode. And the goal was to allow changing the configuration "on the fly" from 5-way to 4-way or 3-way. There's a lot of potential for experimentation with this thing. I just need more time...

Na, I love em.. Outside the box quite literally. How long was the build ?..Mine was near six months...This one coming Ill do in three...give or take, depends on the fishing...🙂
