3 way upgrading Jamo D590 replacements and filter question

Maybe difficult to answer but what do you think about the result of this modified speaker?how does stand up against other speakers you heard?

Yes Belemakare, its always diffucult to describe the sound of a speaker, but i stick out my nose and can say this:

Regarding to this cabinette size and the size of used woofer/midrange, i have never heard a "better" speaker!
Big words i know but it is that good now in my eyes.

I often use acoustic guitar , pianos and female voices to judge a speaker accuracy, because this 3 things is fundamentally important.
And the speaker now play´s that with great accuracy 👍
I have now listen to all different music and its great for all genres.

Play´d Yello, Funk, Jazz, Rock, artist with symphony orchestra behind....It plays it all good

A 8 inch woofer is just a 8 inch woofer, it can´t beat 2 x 8 or a 10-12 inch, but in my listeningpossition it also do a fantastic job!
Any of course it can´t play at 120dB.

But im so pleased with the final result!

Best regards John

@Belemakare in some maners

Reading the thread, I made the bet to change the drivers even before I got the final feedback. On intuition, the cabinet quality of these speakers, thé feedback elsewhere on drivers,...And even without changing the crossover, these last speakers are already far from what they were.
I still have to modify the crossover, it will not be tomorrow, but it will happen soon, and in advance I know that I will be quiet, happy, for a while with these speakers.

Just to mesaure what i hear today ivé mesaure both speaker in stereo at the listening-point in my sofa (there i use to sit and listening)
Also good to now how the curve you like look´s i think....and learn more of course

I mesaure from 200-20.000 hz because under 2-300 hz is just the room impact, so better trust your ears 👍
And my room gives 30 hz at same spl as the rest of the curve, but have a peak at 45 hz and 90 hz.

And i still have orginal port, now in both speaker beause the xoverboard could not fit when i had the 100mm x 48 cm long port in.
There was no room for it,!
So i will now buy 2 pieces of 70mm port insteed and cut them at about 20 cm length.

Mesaurements in 1/48 Smoothing !

Best regards John

Have you been messing around anymore with damping or is it the standard foam?

Here what i think about damping in this project Belemakare.

If you dont change the orginal port, there's no point doing modified damping/Filling work, because you dont get "more clean bass" out of it.
So if you dont modify orginal port, let the orginal daming/filling as it is.

But if you modify orginal port you have a gain also modify orginal damping/Filling !

Im using rockwool on one side (inside cabinette), and also a small piece at highest point inside behind the MTM ( Direct under the top glas on top)
When you play loud the biggest vibrations is on the top of this speaker, therefore the little piece of rockwool at the top inside.

And on all other surface i staple 8-10 mm filt-material ( you can look at the picture )
Wrapt the rockwool in a piece of old sheets, so it don´t releases hazardous fibers into the ear because its a reflex-cabinette.

And i also rebuild MTM damping with a 30mm rockwool in the bottom, and ordenary polyester-sheets covering al "naked surface inside"

Best regards John

(I used your 'moorclos sim' John) - tried many, many adjustement, some did the same job.
And try to use the easiest adjustements,
[with real mesurements in cabinet post 154]

It seems to be the best I can find.

Only 4 changes that I should do (on my cross - Jamo 707i from 1999)
in // with the 222µF (on the board) R6.8ohms [make impedance 'good']
in // R510m ohms (with 3.3R on the board) [near to do the same job as -| |-30µF and the R]
10@18µF (Medium)
4.7@10µF (Tweeter)

If you have observations on it, ty

You can´t build like that, your 6,8 ohms resistor gets 45 Volt at 100 watt from amp.
And i think the curve doesen´t looks so good.

Better try follow my last XSim or this one in this post.

1) Change the 220 uF cap to a 120uF cap
2) Put a 1,3 ohm resistor before the cap (220 to 120 uF ) 1,3 ohm resistor will get 11 Volt at 100 watt from amp, so use a 10 or 20 watt resistor!
3) Take away the resistors before cap on the tweeter side, and change cap from 4,7 to 30uF
4) Put a extra 15uF cap after the 0,35mH coil on tweeter-side (and connect to Minus-side)

Then if you think the tweeter is "to much or to high", put a 1 ohms resistor on PLUS-side just before tweeter

Also think you will get alot more on woofer-side if you put the coil before woofer + side, and also use a cap after ( like my earlier post show, when i use the Peerlees woofer in a example)

Best regards John

Maby skip the 1,3 ohm resistor before the cap 220 to 120 uF.

I was some time since i sat in XSim with your Jamo 707 filter Moorclose, so i dosen´t remember exact all details.
But things looks okey without the 1,3 ohm resistor ( Function is It dampen the mid´s a little, if you have needs for it)

Thx John, you gave me a lot of time, to help me learning (xsim can do things, but without knowledge in theory craft, and math, you can easly make something wrong --- like with resistor, (I had the feeling, that something was wrong)
[for the woofer, my considerations ""I rode that with a isobaric 4th, in bandpass, it's not easy to build(but here the cabinet, was build for it, only variation it's the event), but it act like a natural high an low pass (so don't need many things in the woofer line"")

In you TUTO for D590 (a question I):
Jawen said:
7) Solder both 15uF caps and new 2,2 ohms resistor together to be 30uF, and solder it there the old 1 ohms resistor and thermistor have been before.
( Pic xover 5 )
30µf // 2R2 or 30µF --- 2R2 ?

Jawen said:

(question II):
Didn't see your last Xsim for D590 (the one with tuto, and pictures)?

"follow" ... or this one in this post.

Your work with my crossover, show that the best is the first you show, with 1R3 and 1R.
(perhaps? with the bandpass, no need the advanced update in the woofer line)

Hi Laurent
The xover on D590 and your 707 has slightly different construction methods, so i don´t think you will need the 2,2 oms resistor (paralelle 30 uF
or 2x 15uF caps)

Your work with my crossover, show that the best is the first you show, with 1R3 and 1R.

Yes in this last post #272 i only work in XSim with your orginal Jamo 707 xover as in picture
Thinking that this is the easyest way for you to re-build your xover, and feel safe with the re-build 👍
[for the woofer, my considerations ""I rode that with a isobaric 4th, in bandpass

I don´t have the skills for that type of filter .Laurent

At this monday night i got a 41 celsius fever, and was sick like hell heavy sweating in my bed
The day after i went to hospitale and after 30 hours test it show´d i hade a broken appendicitis.
So a emergency operation was done 12 hours ago, and i don´t feel "perfect" but much much bettter even if it hurts 😊

Best regards John

So sorry to hear about you appendix, Get well soon, and I am sure you are not allowed to laugh to much until your body heals.

Have a happy convalescence, and make sure you rest.
Thanks Ray.....laugh, cough, move and breathe deeply is very painful, but im really feeling happy about life now when I have passed the extremely difficult period monday to Thursday.
But havent been able to eat since monday, and no drink or eat possibilitys after wednesday morning when doctors suspected appendix and possible emergency surgery.

So my intestines are competly empty even if i try to eat something small now every other hour, but i will take some day´s 🙂

And thethe sun is shining brightly here in Sweden, so life is good exept Ukraine situation!

Best regard John

Well, it's no laughing matter. It's a good thing that you went to the hospital, not to mention that at our age, appenditix is serious. Have a good convalescence !

Thank you Laurent

Yes it can get real dangerous and the strange thing about the ruptured appendix, is that you feel a little better, so maby some people thinks its going to be okey if they only stays in bed for a few day´s.

Looks like a cheese arch when I go fetch water in the kitchen hahaha.

Best regards John
