3 way speakers

IME, women and children sure can to the point where I quickly began relying on the females when 'voicing' my builds/home installs. One young female's ears would perk up when a neighbor blew his dog whistle.

interesting i never knew women can hear higher frequencies than men.

i knew of course that children and teenagers can hear higher frequencies better than older adults.
 
For what its worth, this is the only multi way that sounds like a single source

Being less sensitive something is not the same as not being able to be perceived... Its just the lesser of two evils, that is, stacking vertically versus horizontally.
Every speaker is a set of compromises.

Adding more drivers exacerbates the perception of this particular distortion, when in a straight line, vertically or horizontally. Something like below, creates a phantom image, dead center, if possible.

if the sound source is separated horizontally - it is more likely to be perceived as multiple sources.
Either way, it is perceived as multiple sources, thats all I am saying. Its sorta like some of the examples of Group Delay. Just because it doesn't sound bad, doesn't mean that it sounds the same as, what would be technically and ideally and potentially impossibly correct, that is, an actual full range single source with all the headroom you desired. The problem is, the lack of reference. I am imagining comparisons of such, where we would say, they both sound great, but not the same.

Why do I chose to be so anal about it? Because my approach may have lead to inventing this

My former boss was braging about his bozo headphones, till I brough my hifiman he1000 to work so we could compare it side by side.
He never mentioned bozo again.

i got them to use in the gym ( try that with your hifiman ) but found that with Equalizer APO i can EQ them to sound good enough to use at home.

they don't seem to reach very high on the top end but the bass is very deep ( after EQ ) and for the kind of music i listen to it's more important.

side note: it is never a smart move to make your boss look stupid unless you have a better job lined up 😉
 
True but the orchestra playing is spread out not point source 🤔
You might wonna research what stereo actually is. Stereo contains information on X and Z but not Y.

That answer is probably a set up for confusion because I'm just going by how XYZ is expressed inside of VituixCad...

Stereo contains expression of depth as in how far away a sound is.... it contains expression of position from left to right... it has no expression of height... though it may be expressed to some effect using head transfer function, I think video games are trying this, but I can never tell height information regardless.

depends on the driver. a ribbon can be linear over a wide range of frequencies but it becomes very expensive to cover anything below about 1 khz with a ribbon. @lowmass
I have a reliable even at 12 db / oct crossover true free swing ribbon design that goes from 500 hz to 18k Hz +- 1.5db at 88 db sensitivity thats only 15mm wide and 8 inches long. It does need to be trapped to get the level response. The design killed two birds with one stone. 1-The ugly rise in distortion this sized ribbon typically has below about 1.5 Khz AND 2- the reliability issue. Both taken down by the same trick in the design without adding significant mass and killing the whole affair. Another design particular tackled the sharp peaks typical in corrugated ribbons mass/ stiffness across width above about 7Khz. It can be done. However what usefulness does it really have?? Works well with 8 inch or smaller woofer but many dont like the vertical beaming
