Hi Bill, I found the problem with my build. It was really a very stupid and careless mistake. I was dismantling the motor from the motor pod and then discovered there was a stray solder forming a bridge between two pins on the connector receptacle shorting the pins and that was causing all the problem. Once i removed the solder bridge, the motor was working and I have temporarily connected the system up and with the motor driving the turntable, and everything seems to work.
Bill, thank you so much for designing this project and giving all the guidance through the last few year. I keep on amazing how patient you are in dealing with so many questions.
I will post some pictures when i put everything together nicely.

Where to find the motors in Europe
Hello all
Super interesting project.
Very keen on building it... already ordered the chip from Ralph.
Could someone indicate a supplier in Europe for either the BLWR172S-24-2000 or the BLWS231S-24-2000 motors?
Much appreciated.
Thanks and regards

Anaheim Automation does not have an EU distributor; this came up before and I believe they are shipping motors via US Postal to locations outside the US.
I bought a few of these to play with; cheap experiment 🙂
Act MOTOR GmbH 1pc Nema 23 BLDC Motor 57bl01 Brushless 24v 15w 2500rpm Round 3ph | eBay
Act MOTOR GmbH 1pc Nema 23 BLDC Motor 57bl01 Brushless 24v 15w 2500rpm Round 3ph | eBay
Thanks Ralph,
They look very good... and super affordable!
I for sure order 1 or 2
Thanks for the info 😊

Wow, those would be a whole lot less expensive than the Anaheim Automation motors if they work. I hope you'll report back.
Frequency Vs RPM Vs Vrms
Hi Bill,
Getting more into the project, and still on the process of going through all the posts...
I see from time to time, some calculations on the right frequency setting, given a certain RPM, and also resulting in a determined voltage reading!
Is their any formula that we can use and that you would be kind to share?
Thanks for your time.

I've tried modeling this in a XL spread sheet based on the motor specs and measurements, but the results never match up with reality. All of the levels were arrived at empirically.
Yeah, thats what I though... anyway if I understood correctly, the resulting RMS voltage driving the motor is in function of the frequency setting that we determine, correct?
Hi Bill,
I have question for you that quite off from this specific thread topic. As undisputed guru about the subject, would you advice to use Mu-Metal shield layer inside motor case? I have an issue with tiny hum when my tonearm is at record’s end (min possible distance from cartridge to the motor). My cartridge is picking up flux that is leaking from motor. Nothing more can be done to “Faraday” cartridge since it is open body type and it is some variation of Betz Micro Glider. Is any harm to 110V AC asynchronous motor by wrapping it with Permalloy?

Not sure if I would consider myself a "guru"; more of a motor enthusiast, but thanks for the compliment.
Are you sure the hum is being radiated from the motor? The Benz is a MC type and they are usually insensitive to 60Hz hum. Most times, hum is a grounding issue and can be eliminated by less extreme measures.
If you're convinced it is radiated EMI from the motor, you can try shielding the inside of the motor housing; make sure to ground the shield. I'd be careful about wrapping the motor especially if there are air gaps used for cooling.
