How many 2SK170BLs does it take to get four (well 2 x 2 really) matched for Idss ????
So far I've got 21 plus 16 fakes.
At the initial Idss measuring stage NONE of them match for Idss ?????
I've got another 16 coming to replace the fakes.

How many did you uy where?
or just buy them matced🙂
Matched or a batch of 100, I bought to spencer (swap meet) http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/swap-meet/131284-toshiba-2sk170bl-sales.html
They're not easy to get. I bought 20 from Dalbani (including the 16 fakes) and another 16 from an E-Bay source in China. The Chinese source was sound and the components appear genuine. How many did you uy where?
It depends on your definition of 'matched'. For me I would consider the 6.7/6.71 and 8.96/8.97 pairs as being matched for any project I've seen on this site. I would be happy to use several other pairs that are within .05V as well.
Full disclosure: I have matched 100+ of the 2SK170's and of the 2SJ74's and have built a number of projects with them. I typically am happy with the results when I use parts matched to within .1 volts.

Idss mA not volts

There was a quote on the B1 builders thread that stated that the match had to be far closer. Hopefully a few guys will comment about how closely they need to be matched.
Hi Merlin,
Thank you for the correction. It should be milliamps. I think I was thinking in terms of Vgs matching for mosfets -an elder moment I think.
KatieanDad,
Matching requirements vary depending on the circuit. You asked a general question and I gave a general answer. It would help if you gave more detail on your specific application.

For a reference
I only matched Idss voltage , and was as follows
7.94, 7.95, 7.97, 7.97 (supply was 9.616 volts)
output offsets of the Mezmerize buffer are -0.4mVdc and -1.6mVdc (Pretty good in my opinion)
PS I also bough 100 from Mouser last year (2SK170BLF) at the end of october last year, maybe they still have stock, only cost 55 USD
With this hundred I got quite a few pairs , and the best quad was 9.55, 9.55,9.56,9.56 (i did not use this as I recall that a lower Idss was better for performacne)
Hope this helps (or gives confidence that super macthing is not so critical)
