2007 Maxon Motor Group Buy

Hi Secips, you have mail. Take note that the 25$ is for the PCB assembly only, not the complete install into the enclosure. I'm doing it only for one member, because this will be my prototype.

Sadly because of soaring $CAN exchange rate compare to the U$, I now ask 25$ CAN for the assembly. I'll also test the PCB to be sure it is functional before sending it to you.

If you want, please send 25$ CAN to my PayPal at algar_emi"at"hotmail.com

Thanks ligascon for the payment.
Only waiting for terence8888, Walter Burkhard, and hags now...

Only two guys left. terence8888, Walter Burkhard.

All the parts kits are ordered.

Next week:

Custom Plate and BIX Pulley:
I'll transfer the money for the custom plate and I'll order the Pods and BIX pulley if they are in stock.

Teres, still no stock confirmation from Chris Brady.

PCB
I'm waiting to receive the enclosure to confirm the PCB dimensions then I'll send it for production.

Motor:
Still waiting for the 2 last payments. 2 motors are 190$, so. We will see next monday. I received the motor M2 mounting screws.

Things are starting to move.

Mylar Tape.

I estimated that 48" lenght is needed for each Teres pulley user. I have 23 Teres pulleys on order

I tried to order two rolls 100', 1/2 hologaphic tape. We may as well also buy one roll of black color.

But tried is the word, the supplier was charging me 65$ shipping for a 9$ purchase :hot:

So, unless some of you guys can buy it from the US, I cannot get from Canada, shipping is too expensive. Anyone volunteer to buy it for me in the US, then ship it to me using US Post Service?

I'm sure it will be cheaper compare to international UPS service.

Thanks...

Just a question about the pulley...wasn't a reason of the previous pulley groupbuy that the teres or bix pulley was too thin for the Mark Kelly controller to drive a platter to 33 rpm?

[EDIT] Nevermind. It was in reference to another pulley. What is the pulley width of the teres type actually?

Here is what Mark Kelly said:

"For the 110191 motor with the 12V controller the pulley to platter step up ratio MUST NOT be greater than 24 : 1 if you wish to include 45rpm" If using platter drive that is. Platters usually being 300mm?

That means that with the 12volt supply a pulley should be 13mm wide.

Thanks Algar for all the work.

Dear thread,

should we all chip in about $2.50, so Algar can get his motor for free?

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been away - I most heartily agree that we should chip in at least that amount. I don't know what algar_emi normally charges for his time, but even if he's flipping burgers for minimum wage, he's being ridiculously underpaid for his group-buy time.

And besides, he is very tolerant about my French when I e-mail him 😉

Regards.

Indeed, I'm spending hours and hours on this group buy. By the way, the $CAN exchange rate kill me again today. I transfered the money I could for the items I need to pay with my credit card (that I pay in $CAN), but got a very bad exchange rate from PayPal. I think that I'll get under at the end by some margin. I have to calculate every cost very closely. Since the prices I mentionned are close to what I pay with no margin at all, I got hit by this exchange rate problem.

I'll adjust the last payment to be sure I don't loose money :xeye:

Pulley problem.

Thanks Bas for bringing up this problem. It seems we got stuck, at least for the 45 rpm. I got to work something here.

Solutions can be:
-Best Solution: Chris Brady mentionned that for such a quantity of pulleys, he may be able to get us a custom pulley that fit our needs. If it can be arrange it will be a life saver.

-I guest the Teres and BIX pulleys is out of question for the one that still want 45 rpm. I may buy just 1 BIX pulley with the pods and try it on my prototype to see the result. We will see.

-Custom pulley from machine shop, very expensive. Not good.

From my own calculations using the Teres Pulley dimensions I got:
Teres pulley diam=10.98mm,
Teres platter diam=310.515mm,
pulley ratio = 10.98/310.515 = 0.0353865 or 28.26 > 24 as recommended by Mark kelly...
Motor specs = 126rpm/V
33-1/3rpm = motor 941 rpm= 7.5V
45rpm = motor 1271rpm= 10.0V.
From my own prototype the Controller range = 6.2 to 11.2V with current feedback activated.
So maybe it can work after all. I have to try it with actual motor.

UPDATE: Mark documentation states: "the full scale output of the controller being 10.0 volts". So this is why the 10mm pulley cannot work with 45rpm, but it will be ok for 33-1/3. It may be an intermediate solution, while we tried to get a custom pulley.

If I use Mark recommended ratio of 23.07 (300mm platter / 13mm pulley) I got:
33-1/3rpm = motor 768 rpm= 6.05V
45rpm = motor 1038 rpm = 8.17V
I'm confused here. From these values, I would expect the controller to work only for 45rpm but not 33rpm. The controller behavior is probably different with the actual Maxon motor than with my actual test motor. I'll need the real motor to esperiment.

I'll post a question to Mark. I may answer, we will see.

Payment Updates

terence8888 was on a trip for work and my emails were sent to junk by hotmail. Thanks Terence.

Good news is that the last member, Walter Burkhard only ordered 2 PCB's, so I can proceed my the motor order and the rest...

Only left: Walter Burkhard but just for 2 PCB, no big deal.😀
