A few corrections:

I started an Excel file with this list to track Payment. Prepare your money, You'll get an email by the end of the week. I'll close the group buy, get the money and start the ordering.

IMPORTANT: To all of you that that confirm your pulley type yet, if it is not confirm, I WON'T order it. So please make your choice. Thanks.

Once the group buy is closed, I'll send you a personal email to all of you requesting that you confirm your own order. Then I'll proceed.

Just for you to realize that this group buy is BIG MONEY, here is my first Excel version. More than $6451 in total 😱

For the moment, I have three columns in my spreadsheet: Paid, Final Payment (incl shipping) and Done. We will work together to get the last column ''Done'' all sets to ''Yes''-Green

One last nightmare for me is the $CAN is now valued more than the U$. So I'll need to make sure parts paid in $CAN are correctly charged in U$. My credit card will be charged in $CAN, etc...

Here the prices I used (some are estimate, like the Parts Kit):
Motor 90 Incl. Shipping 5$
PCB 25
Pod 90 Incl. Shipping 10
Plate 38 Incl. Shiping ?
Pulley Teres 25 Incl. Shiping ?
Pulley BIX 15 Incl. Shipping 3$
Parts Kit 175

Wasted, don't get too excited yet. As I said, my price estimate for the parts was very rough, it will be certainly lower. Also, don't forget that you will pay about the same price + extra to buy in single quantity and shipping cost. I'll split the shipping costs and taxes between all buyers, reducing it even further. So, it will be probably cost you more to get the parts. This price reflects that you requested all the options. I'll switch you to the BIX pulley.

Wait until I give you a verify total and then you can decide to go or not.

kraljmatjaz: Some users reported that some parts were difficult to source in Europe. Also some parts are available only in 10 or 25 min. quantity. See my answer to Wasted...

By the way, I just added a reverse battery protection to the circuit, a simple very high speed diode after the battery fuse, connected in reverse polarity. If the battery is connected in reverse by error, this diode will conduct fast a high current than will burn the battery fuse. It was used all the time into Hewlett-Packard test gear power supply.
It is cheap and effective.

Um, Teres. No, wait, Bix. No, Teres. No...

Ed LaFontaine said:

I'd like to make an informed decision as to which pulley to choose.

Me too, sort of, though in my case it might be setting a precedent. :xeye: But it looks like that information may not be available (or may be a matter of opinion), so what I've decided is that, since it's only a few bucks more, I will take one Bix and one Teres and experiment. I will also take a parts kit. So, now I'm at:

Aengus PCB + Pod + Plate + pulley BIX + pulley Teres + parts kit

Just don't tell my wife what the total comes to.

Topic number 2: I'm going to be doing some travelling from Nov. 1 through Nov 7 and will be checking this board and my e-mail infrequently or not at all. Algar_emi, if you will need $$ before Nov. 8, please PM me and we'll work it out. Thank you.

Regards.

Aengus

[edited to make question for Algar_emi stand out]

Ed, as Angus said there is no simple answer to your question. One answer may be your platter type and dimensions. If your platter is not thick enought, the Teres needs 1/2" tape, so you need a platter thicker than 1/2", let say 1" and more.

Aengus and other, don't forget this: The Teres pulley is assembled using the cold/hot coupling method (Freeze the motor shaft-contract/Heat the pulley-expand) then slide the pulley to the shaft. But since the Teres, as I said, is using a blind hole, you cannot use a puller to safely remove the pulley without applying possible to much force to the motor shaft bearings. By the way, I stopped talking my wife into my projects. Better she doesn't know 😉

My own recommendation is, go for the BIX (cheaper and can be remove). Try it and maybe later upgrade to a tape drive.

I have also to remind you that the Teres pulley is a wish for now. I contacted Chris Brady to know if we can buy it, but no confirmation yet. We will see.

Wasted, you have mail. To resume, if you're short of money (we all are 😉), at least get the motor, plate and PCB. The pod, pulley & parts you can get later. In the worst case, you can always build your own plate using hole saw, drill, etc. The result won't be as professionnal though.

Bye...

Peer pressure is a terrible thing😉 The wives must never find out.

Count me in for all but the parts then,
motor+pulley(bix)+pod+PCB+top plate,
We're all going to Burn I tell ya.

Wasted, I don't want to endanger your relation with your familly :hot: I noted for you only the strick minimum: Motor+PCB+Plate, the rest Pod and Pulley you can get yourself after Christmas. This way it is back to a more reasonnable 153$
Let me know if I interpretated the familly mood correctly

Finneybear I removed the pod.
terence8888 & Aengus you're in for both pulleys as requested.

we probably need to start another thread for questions like this, but can anyone give me the specifications for the SLA battery option? Anyone know of something fairly compact that might be able to fit in the case with the controller? I'm trying to decide if the Hammond case is going to work for me.
