I'd bet that more than a few folks jumped on the bandwagon with these or 206ESr's, and either never got around to actually building, or moved on to something else.

That is true... retail was under $200 each. how much i can't recall (the FE206eSR was $221)

I have a pair of the 166-ESR's, I think I paid around $300.00 for the pair. I also have a pair of 206-ESR's and 138-ESR's.

have you actually built and listened to them all?
maybe bad timing, or wrong place; i'm really thought i paid over $500 a pair for mine.
i know i paid $918 /pr for 138esr's--they're a lot cheaper now;
don't remember what i paid for 108esr's,
but i wouldn't mind having another pair.
probably wouldn't mind paying more than what they sold for originally, as they're now unobtanium...
it's a lot of work to build something from scratch.
and at least one enclosure built for everything...

I've been listening to the 166's in back loaded horns for around 3yrs. I haven't done anything with the 138's or 206's yet. I moved to a different house which required a bunch of work, you probably know how it goes. I try to get at least one major diy audio project done each year though. This year is a TT, last year SET monoblocs, year before that a tube preamp.
I plan to build some OB's like MK's with 2 alpha 15's per side to try all the drivers in. I also have a pair of Lowther PM2C's.
From the OB's I've listened to this will probably be the road I wind up going down.
Mark
Mark, you've got better discipline or time management skills than I if you can complete even only one personal audio project in a year.
If you've got the space, a well execute OB can certainly be very enjoyable
