The Group Buy is now over, but I am wondering who signed up and bought these on this site? Anyone?

I bought one.

I was going to, but couldn't come up with the money in time. I will be in the next buy though if minoten (or someone else) decides it worth their while to do another group buy. I hope the community could keep this going. I hope Minoten padded the price at least a little, he deserves fair compensation for his time.

are you doubting wether it can do 1080p? I thought that was the whole point of bulding such an expensive projector to get 1080p.

I'm saying that I don't know, I'm dumb when it comes to video technology. From minoten's website:

VGA Input
» D-Sub 15pin
» Supports Sync-on-Green (1080i,720p,480p,480i through Component-to-VGA cable)

Does this mean that VGA only supports up to 720p/1080i, and that you have to use DVI for 1080p? Or, is sync on green only needed when a monitor is running outside of it's native resolution, ie 1080p?

Would a 720p image look as good displayed on this projector as it would on a projector that does 720p natively?

Never, any resolution looks better in its native form (analog tv looks great on an old 13inch crt)

sync-on-green is what is needed to play component video through the VGA input, such as a set top box. From what I know, component (sync on green) supports 720p/1080i/480i/480p (480p fixed this time around). I asked them if 1080p was supported, and they said it may, but they have no way to test it as they dont have any 1080p component content.

The VGA input itself, for computer resolutions, are listed on my website. 1080p worked for me, and so did 1920x1200. (it supports a lot more resolutions but these are the high ones)

DVI-D supports 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 through a single link (it supports a lot more resolutions but these are the high ones). I do not have a 1080p source to hook it up with so I cannot test it! I have tested it with a 480i,720p, and 1080i source.

It is kind of hard for any device to support 1080p from anything other than a computer at this point, as there are no standards for 1080p video transfer feeds...even the new 1080p tv's wont accept 1080p inputs.

Hope that helps

so lets get this straight and for the record. If I use your wuxga kit running a dvd movie from a computer upscaled with the video card to 1080p it will display this resolution through dvi connection correct? Can I also display this resolution using the vga port?

And this uses the maximum potential of the wuxga screen correct?

Yup...dvi and vga.

No 1080p doesn't use the full potential, as the screen is 1920x1200, not 1920x1080...so you still have some room on the bottom or top if you choose 1080p.

Another thing to note about 720p sources etc, is that there is an option on the controller to set the scaling to 1:1, so you get perfect pixel matching...

Awesome, I was just going to ask this question, thanks for answering it in advance 😎

One last question, what happens if I have a 1080p source image in 2.35:1 format? Does the controller board offer the options to chop off and or scale the sides? I personally prefer chopping... If I run all 2.35:1 format in 720p though, then I would not have to worry about chopping correct? Because I would have enough horizontal real estate to do 2.35:1?

Minoten you can count me in if you do another group buy. I'll be sure to check your website regularly -- I'm assuming any updates you have on group buys will be posted there. Thanks a lot for your time, it is very much apreciated.

So the full potential is running your powerstrip / computer at 1200p or just 1200x1920 correct. Only doing through a computer right.

Can powerstrip be configured to run at this rez?

What is this 1:1 pixel match? you mean if your dvd is 720x480 you can match 720 x 480. This cant be what you mean so please explain.

He means that the LCD will only "turn on" 720 rows of pixels and the intersecting 1280 (assuming a 16:9 source ) columns for a 720p source. This would decrease your screen size but keep the "zoom" 1:1 so you wouldn't have any loss of image.

Whats the point of spending all this money to only run 720p?
Is there a difference running a 17 inch lcd monitor at 720p from this wuxga kit?

Sorry Corn Picker I still dont understand the 1:1 pixel mapping thing.

Sorry Corn Picker I still dont understand the 1:1 pixel mapping thing.

1:1 pixel mapping means your picture is show in the middle of your screen (or is other positions possible????) using only the middle 720 rows of pixels and using only the middle 1280 columns of those rows. The rest of the screen will be black. You will have a black frame surrounding your picture consisting of the pixels not used since you are using a lower resolution. Much like the black bars you see on a 3/4 TV when watching 16/9 content, only here you have less resolution in both height and with giving you a black frame both on the sides and on the top and bottom.

The point of this would be to avoid the smearing effect a rescaling gives. And you can't expect to have all HD content available in 1080 i/p.... at least not yet (much like PAL/NTSC....). Most content I have seen is only available in 720p🙁
The best idea would be to use 1:1 pixel mapping and use a zoom lens to increase the size of the picture on your screen. That way you would get the best picture in 720p out of your expensive projector.

Only too bad I was too late for this group order...... :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: I came back today after remembering having seen it some time ago only to find out that I was unable to get it this time too.....

ahh. I understand now. So the way I understand is like this.

The best resolution settings for MOST monitors is the native resolution. Anything lower or higher will distort the image.
Now the native res of this monitor is 1920x1080 so anything lower is going to look lousy.

But I thought this was the point to put 1920 x 1080 pixels on the screen and minimize the pixelation and make the image smoother. I understand now the monitor or video card will take your 720p native hdtv signal and upscale it to 1920 x 1080.

If you show only 720 x 1280 pixels of you monitor then you will be showing much less pixels on the screen. Why bother having a wuxga res lcd then? Why not just get a 17 inch lcd than can do 720x1280 native?

Hi everyone,

Not claiming to be an expert here but being a hardware guy , the chip on the winmate cntrllr board is quite sophisticated and can upsample silimar to a farougja image processor, something to conisder when viewing lower res video's

Something to consider

Cheers

Minoten,

I sent you an email a couple of weeks ago about the next group buy as I'd like to buy just a controller card, no response. I'm assuming you're on holidays ???

Also , the "Join Group Buy" link on your webpage is broken/ dead.

Hopefully I'll hear from you soon !!

Cheers and all the best for the festive season !

Vlass.
