Where are the results?
Hello.
The US-groupbuy is now the past.
Can we see now the results and experiences and projectors from the beamerbuilders?

No one has received their WUXGA kits yet.
They will start receiving them in the next 2 weeks, then they will need to build their projectors.

Datasheet for the 15,4" WUXGA needed
Hello,
a friend of mine and me are searching someone who can sent us the datasheet of those 15,4" WUXGA TFT's via Mail.
A Datasheet for one of those following TFT's:
-Sharp LQ154M1LW02,
-Toshiba LTD154EZ0D
-Samsung LTN154U1-L01
None of those Datasheets can be found via Internet!
The group-buy which minoten offers for US-Customers only is not available for European customers.
And the initially named link for a possible European distributor doesn't exist anymore.
Because of that, we want to provide an opportunity for the Europeans to purchase such a Controller Kit, too.
We're planning to make a cooperation with one of our European Flatpanel Controller manufacturers. We only need a Datasheet of the listed TFT Displays, preferably from the Sharp WUXGA TFT to configurate the controller Board's Bios and to make the correct PIN-Assignment.
Please help us to provide a cheap group buy offer for all European Customers who are interested in a HDTV DIY Projector Kit.
Thank you

Hello.
The company Kontron in Germany offers this "All-you-can-dream"-Controller" (Except a DVB-tuner) here starting from October: http://www.kontron-emea.com/index.php?id=226&cat=78&productid=653
Data-sheet:
http://www.kontron-emea.com/downloads/datasheet/TD-CRTtoLCD-7-prlm.pdf
Faroudja DeInterlacer, HDCP, DVI/VGA/SVideo/Composite, IR-Receiver, OSD, By software programmable for each TFT, optional cable-kits for each TFT, backlight-dimming (e.g. with LEDs)...
I can wait for this perfect controller 🙂 . You can adjust tht TFT foreach controller!!!
Which Wuxga tft is at present the best? Any longer don't than 400:1 go? Which Notebook has now the best display?

Hello Tobias and all the other guys,
not the Controller or getting its Datasheet is our Problem!
I know the Kontron Controller and I know where to get its specs and Datasheet! That's out of question! That was also not my question!
I JUST NEED TO KNOW THE SPECS / DATASHEET OF THOSE WUXGA TFT'S!!!!! NOT THE CONTROLLER SPECS!!!!
KEEP IN MIND: The LCD Panel-datasheet - that's what counts!
The TFT Datasheet decides, whether you make the whole thing run or not.
No manufacturer/distributor of Flatpanel Graphics Controllers will be able to do the needed Bios Programming and configuration for you without getting the LCD Datasheet from you!!!
After all, we only need the WUXGA LCD Datasheet to find out the correct timings, power consumption, correct cable assignment between controller and LVDS plug at the LCD Panel etc...
Minoten knows the specs of the Sharp TFT for sure! Otherwise, those Guys from Taiwan wouldn't have been able to configure the Controllers Bios properly and make it run for him. And without these information, he wouldn't have been able to make the correct cable connectors between LCD and Controller.
I don't know why minoten doesn't react on our cry for help?!
I think, he should also be interested to enable Europeans to join the HDTV Club, too. Not only because the guy who wanted to initiate a european group-buy in the beginning, disapppeared suddenly. There is nothing to hear from that guy anymore.
The site behind the initial purchasing-link which was posted by minoten for all europeans who wanted to make a group buy is not existing any more. It seems to me, as if there was never really a serious attempt to start with it! So we want to do so and make it happen!!!
So, unfortunately, Europe has been completely excluded from minoten's group buys until today. If anybody knows, how to contact minoten directly, please ask him, if he can sent us this LCD Datasheet of the Sharp panel he used for his project. That shouldn't be a serious problem for him.
Unfortunately until know, it seemed to me, as if there wouldn't be a serious interest to reveil the Specs of the TFT. I don't know why?! Maybe, he is just on holiday at the moment?!
-----------------------------
....and for Tobias once again in german:
Man benötigt das Datasheet für das TFT!!!
Ohne dieses funktioniert nämlich definitiv gar nix!
Ist mir schon klar, woher ich das Datasheet des Controllers herbekomme! Das liegt mir auch schon seit einiger Zeit vor. Aber das war und ist nicht das Thema!
Man benötigt das LCD-Datasheet weil:

Rallafatz,
I am starting a second group buy within the week, hopefully by tomorow night.
This group buy WILL include Europeans, Australians, whomever.
I limited myself to those locally during the first group buy to simplify things, as I had never done a group buy before.
Now that I have the logistics worked out, I am opening this second group buy to anyone!
There are some things that must be done differently if you are ordering internationally (excluding Canada). First of all, because it is so difficult to quote international shipping charges when I collect money, I am going to require an international buyer to open a UPS/Fedex account under their name.
This will allow me to collect just the money for the components when placing the order, and then when I ship the items out I simply use your UPS/Fedex number on the AirBill and ship it out! You will then be charged directly for the VAT/Shipping charges.
Also, for international buyers, I am going to set up a wire transfer system, so money can be quickly and easily sent to me, with the smallest charge possible ($8). Wheras international document shipping is more expensive, and paypal...well...you know paypal.
About the LCD Sheet, I was never able to find it, I contacted LCD companies, Sharp, etc. Ultimately, the controller manufacturer found a japan spec sheet and they put the bios together. I know nothing about programming these bios's!
The Group Buy Website is right here: http://members.cox.net/minoten

all Right!
Hello Minoten,
that sounds good. I got a verified paypal account. That is quite simple, cheap and safe.
Let's do it!
Another Question: Can those Japanese programmers also sent us this japanese Datasheet, they used for their Bios programming of the Sharp? It doesn't matter, if it is in Japanese language. We'll decode it ;-)

I do not let anybody program the BIOS
@rallafatz
YeS, is clear. But I must remind all there still times to.
You will already know it from that German forum ;-) .
The specifications will be with the TFT thereby, or? Or directly from the manufacturer to to get its, or?
I look for myself only times the Notebook with the best picture.
Then I have the best TFT.
Does someone know the TFT (Notebook) with the best picture?
I decide not after the data sheet, but after the quality.
Afterwards I look for the data sheet.
Either participates it, or I get it from the manufacturer.
Everyone can program the controller.
If to me the TFT does not assure (in a set) program myself I another.
Yes?
none manufacturer/distributor is to program the CONTROLLER. That make I.
"I am not stupid nevertheless", I do not pay for that program ;-D .

Yes, then I can adjust the Controller.
Why still in a foreign group purchase participate? Do we get the parts there more cheaply than with a German group purchase? There the foreigners can take part to. We have Kontron in Germany. Is it to be referred more cheaply from the foreign country? Plus dispatch etc..
I would take part only in a group purchase if the CRT-to-LCD7 in it am. I do not buy another controller, since I do not want to be dependent on the manufacturer which BIOS programming concern. I do not pay for that program the BIOS.

Hello Tobias,
I can only repeat my self, when I'm telling you, that you will definetively need the datasheet to realize this project!
I still asked all of the manufacturers of controllerboards to configure it corresponding to the Sharp (inclusive Kontron, Hamburg ;-). I always got the same answer like this:
"We need a datasheet to configure the panel and produce the correct LVDS cable connectors!!!"
Only Winmate seems to be the only one who found that japanese datasheet on their own. So only they were able to configure the Bios!
Ask Kontron, ask the other guys here in the forum. They will tell you exactly the same. You can't configure this controller without knowing how to connect each of the the LVDS Panel Cables to the Controller. Or do you want to do some try and error attempts (Minus auf Plus und die Sicherung ist druß ;-))?! Surely not! Because this will surely destroy your equipment by high risk of incorrect PIN-Assignment. Kontron also doesn't know the correct PIN Assignment without having a datasheet! Believe me.
I still got a configured and selfmade Cable connector in use with my actual panel and Kontron Controller. This HDTV one will be my selfmade Projector Variant number 5. How many DIY-Projects did you realize successful in the past? Believe me. I know, what I'm talking about. You got lots of cables at the LVDS Interwiring (at least 20 or 30 Poles). they have to be assigned correctly! Else, it will definetively not work!!!
And on the other hand, as minoten wrote some posts ago, I also made that experience with the lack of Datasheets being published.
Only Dell owns the rights to distribute those panels in their notebooks! They told me, that Dell made a contract with Sharp, Toshiba and Samsung as their manufacturers of the Panels.
So Dell has the exclusive rights to handle and distribute those WUXGA Panels in their Notebooks. So several requests to Dell all over the world ended the same: They are not willing to provide anybody a datasheet of those LCD's! They told me, that this is a company secret, they don't want to reveil.
After that, I tried to get this information directly from the LCD's manufacturers instead. But the Panel Manufacturers also told me the same: No interest to sent me a datasheet (Sharp, Samsung and Toshiba). That's because Dell is their Customer and they exclusively produced those WUXGA TFTs for Dell. They will be punished by Dell, If they would distribute this information to the public.

I do not have stated that I no data sheet need!!!
I will take however no data sheet of possibly someone.
I get my data sheet directly from the manufacturer. WHERE thus is the problem? And I will not make the TFT dependent on the data sheet.
Yes, Kontron needs a data sheet.
But only if ignorant (translation of "unwissende") customers want to have it made from Kontron! For what?
In little steps:
1.) I buy only the Controller. I do not give a data sheet to Kontron. I do not assign anybody programing.
2.) I buy a TFT. I procure myself a data sheet.
3.) I connect the Controller with the computer by serial cable.
4.) I download myself the free software of Kontron.
5.) I start this software. I make a connection with the Controller.
6.) I enter the values of the data sheet.
7.) I remove the serial cable. I connect the TFT with the suitable cable kit with the Controller. These do not have to be specially made. There are

If it the data sheet for the Controller of Sharp or Dell does not give procures one it elsewhere.
There is still another another display in the I8600, if I do not err. That must have the same values.
I can take also another WUXGA display.
I I called Kontron. They said to me that I can program the CONTROLLER with the software!Ask Kontron, ask the other guys here in the forum.
The others here in the forum do not know that yet! Therefore they do not have notion.
It was apparent naturally that the manufacturers the customers to always pay left.
With the Konrtron-Software, we can adjust the Controller for each panel over the serial cable!
No, I have the information you can see in the last sentences. They will tell you exactly the same.
You must ask for the new CRT-to-LCD7!

That is a stupid argument. I have proven which you wrongly had. You can build many projectors, but this is not a honor which give you right. Somewhat I can also build bad projectors. But that is wasted money. If I something make, then correct. I need only a good projector as TV-replacement/PC-optional, not as technical plaything!. Otherwise that is not worthwhile itself. How many DIY-Projects did you realize successful in the past?
In kleinen Schritten:
1.) Ich kaufe nur den Controller. Ich gebe Kontron kein Datenblatt. Ich beauftrage niemand mit der programmierung.
2.) Ich kaufe ein TFT. Ich besorge mir ein Datenblatt.

Hello Tobias,
Just relax, sent me your roadmap when you'll be ready to start with a completed running setup. Don't forget to let me know, when you got all systems running.
Can't wait to see some of your results. I am very keen on that. And please don't forget to inform us, when the appropriate WUXGA LVDS cables and the new Kontron Controller will be available for the public. Then, I'll put myself on the list, too!
From that moment on, we'll discuss it further...
Until then, I'm just doing some practical steps concering HDTV on my own... First of all, I'm starting with Minoten's solution.
I Wish you a good time

The second WUXGA Kit group buy has begun!
C&P from WUXGA Kit Mailing List:
C&P from WUXGA Kit Mailing List:
I will be taking orders starting today and ending Friday September 30th.
Go to http://members.cox.net/minoten to read about the kit and place your order, the prices have not changed.
A new payment method has been added called "wire transfer", please note that there is an $8 wire transfer fee if you choose this payment.
There was an issue with 480p through Component input (Sync-On-Green via VGA) with the first group buy, the manufacturer has fixed this problem and the new controllers for the second group buy will support 480p. Please note that in order for the controller manufacturers to fix this problem, they were forced to disable 640x480@60hz VGA Input.
For International Buyers:
- You will NEED a UPS/Fedex account to order this kit, your account will be charged when I ship your items.
- You will NEED to select "wire transfer" in order to send payment. If you wish to use another form of payment, please send me an e-mail.
For those of you who have sent me emails in the past few days, please be patient. I have been working hard and will answer your emails as soon as I find time! (soon)
As always, shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions that are not answered on the website.

Camera is far from perfect, but it gives you an idea of how crisp the screen is and how the colors are. Colors are much more vibrant in real life though. Camera exagerates dark corners etc.
