100W Ultimate Fidelity Amplifier

MF resistor is good upgrade, I suggest to replace 0R22/5W with 3W noninductance or paralleling 3X 1R/2W carbonfilm (0R33 instead 0R22 is OK)

Hi Apex,

I am using +/- 42V rail, so I left the BC560C as they are.

I borrowed the big power supply board from my subwoofer with 8x 8200uF filter capacitors and one 25A bridge rectifier per channel to test the AX14.

I have since build two power supply boards with 4x Nichicon 8200uF filter capacitors & 8x On-Semi MUR1520 fast diodes per channel. Surprisingly the AX14 sound better with less filter caps - the amp sound faster & more detailed.

Cheers, Stanley

Some audiophiles think that fast diodes instead bridge rectifier in PSU give better sound to the amp...
Can you post schematics of both PSU, there is some resistors and caps?
Regards

Hi Apex,

My PSUs has nothing special & I did not have a schmatics for it.

The old subwoofer PSU just use one GBPC2502 rectifier bridge & 8x 8200UF filter capacitors. The capacitors bank are connected as C-R-C-C-C & value for R is 0R22 (5W) & the Zobel is 1R2 plus 470nF.

=-=

I captured the screenshot from KiCad for MUR1520 version here.

D1 to D8 are MUR1520 or any TO-220AB fast diodes
C1 to C8 are 100nF MKT bypass cap for each diode
C11 to C14 are the main filter caps (snap-in up to 35mm dia.)
Zobel is 2R2 plus 470nF MKT cap
4K7 & LED to breed the filter caps.

I used two cheap E-I (0-30V AC) transformers and a toroidal transformer with two secondary windings can also been used.

Cheers, Stanley

Possible difference 0R22/5W in C-R-C-C-C connect is audible...
