Burning Amp 2024!

Here's a close up of the stacked heat sinks... Note how there's still somewhat of a gap between the top and bottom heatsinks.... the heat "pipe" is created by the dual copper bars on either side.

I could add thermal goop between them but at this time, I think I'll just run with the fan.

At 1.41V bias it runs reasonable. If I can cool them down to 50C I might try biasing at 1.5V?

I literally cannot say enough wonderful things about Sheldon’s contribution to BAF this year… we had a huge issue with sound during the presentations at BAF 2023, and we knew something different needed to happen. Sheldon stepped in and made everything work seamlessly and beautifully, and manned the mixer for the entire time.

It is not overstating to say that the show would not have been as successful without his help, and these videos certainly would not be available for everybody without him.

Formally, with much appreciation, thank you @SheldonSm

Don't you find it ironic that a get together of audio enthusiasts would have had issues with the PA?

Very nice! Thanks a lot!
I observed that on my display (or two displays, actually) the whites in the projector screen in the Nelson Pass talk are kind of blown out, and some of the schematics lines are disappearing. Is that due to my settings, or is the video like that? Is there maybe a way to reduce the contrast or shift the white level down a bit? Also, the background sounds are a bit high, but if all there is in the recording is two channel audio then probably one can't do anything about it.
But still, very enjoyable!
Is it possible to post or direct me to the slides (PPT/pdf?) for the presentations? Tom and Scotts at least for me 🙂 because I can't see them well enough. I usually sat in the front rows in class 🙂
maybe Tom can put his up on his web site for me. Thanks, great stuff

I wanted to get this out there early...

For BAF'25, my wife would like to suggest that the event be scheduled during the same weekend as "The Cake Picknic" in San Francisco. This year it happened to be over the Veterans Day weekend. Not sure when it will be next year. This will most certainly help my chances of attending Burning Amp Festival 2025

(Yes, this is tongue and cheek....except she's serious in her request)

I had to compress the .pdf pretty hard to make it fit within the diyAudio file size limit, but here it is.

I've been away on vacation so not paying much attention...first of all thanks so much for the kind words and happy to support burning amp and this forum anyway I can. If there is enough interest I could probably redo a video or two with the original slides edited in. I might try with Nelson's just to see how long it takes me.
Not much I can do about the audio at the moment but we do have the zoom recordings which used the lav mic. I can also try to replace the audio in these with the audio from the lavs.

+1 for using the slides as B-roll and audio from the lav mic. Getting the audio sync'ed could be a chore, but some video software (Final Cut Pro, for example) will do that automatically. Next year just have the presenter clap twice. That makes audio and video easy to sync.

If you can get the video and audio to me I'm happy to fiddle around with my presentation as well.

I'll play a flamenco tune? Ole!

The VFET amp in that picture is a non serial numbered P-channel that I assembled. It has a set of the lottery electronics that were kept as a spare and raffled at Burning Amp 2022.

The preamp shown is a B1 buffer in a repurposed NuTube chassis. I took the buffer out of that system not long after the picture. These speakers need a lot of drive and sound better driven by a preamp with gain like an ACP+.

I knew I should have bid on that amp... I was about to and then someone, you? bid on it.

Again, knowing you were very interested in the amp, I asked you directly, during the bidding... you are the one who missed out with ample opportunity...

🤷‍♂️

Oh well. Someday someone will have one for sale. Don't hesitate then!
