Burning Amp 2024!

85 reasons not to wear one.

Tom

I dunno.. I kind of like wearing a nice suit with a nice tie.... the wife dresses up to the nines and we go to a fancy dinner.

We don't do it often, but it's sort of fun.

And she does look great, she knows it, so it's even more fun. ;-)

To go to work, wear a suit and tie... well, hell, that's a different story. Nobody does that anymore.

Sometimes we build amps... sometimes we just overkill it.

How's this for overkill?

Android Tablet->NX4 DAC->Conrad Johnson ET3SE (yep!!)->Zons Of Zenductor->Rolls SX45 as low pass filter->Parasoun Zamp->Dayton Audio MKSX4 subwoofer

Notice the stacked heatsinks and the almost 4" long copper bars holding them.

I set this up in my home office and it sounds.... AWESOME.... I'm not exaggerating, it sounds soooo good.

If you look closely, under the CJ, you'll see a spare Iron Pre Bal... in case the Earth blows up or something.

And yes, that's a leopard rug. It's my Man Cave after all.... ;-) Besides, my wife gave it to me....

In the current set up, I see an 11C difference between top to bottom. The bottom also have dropped into the mid/low 60Cs, which is down from the 70sCs.

I got an identical heat sink as the bottom and mounted it on top of the bottom ones. The heatsinks have a whole in them, about an inch up, so I used that to bolt an almost 4" copper bar to them. One on either side of the heat sinks, so two bars per heat sink "tower". A single hole seems to be sufficient to hold the top heat sink in place sturdily enough. I put some strips of Keratherm between the heat sink and the copper bar.

I think I might put some goop between the top/bottom of the heat sinks themselves and a bit of Loctite Blue to hold them mechanically secure.

You could also drill a second hole towards the top of the bottom heat sink and use that to mechanically secure, and add better thermal contact, to the bar, but as it now stands it fits quite snuggly by pressure alone. When installing the top one, make sure the bars are loosely mounted so as they slide over the bottom heat sink the Keratherm won't strip off. Once in place, tighten the bolt.

I'll post some pictures later.

Plan is to add a low speed fan.

Very nice! Thanks a lot!
I observed that on my display (or two displays, actually) the whites in the projector screen in the Nelson Pass talk are kind of blown out, and some of the schematics lines are disappearing. Is that due to my settings, or is the video like that? Is there maybe a way to reduce the contrast or shift the white level down a bit? Also, the background sounds are a bit high, but if all there is in the recording is two channel audio then probably one can't do anything about it.
But still, very enjoyable!

I literally cannot say enough wonderful things about Sheldon’s contribution to BAF this year… we had a huge issue with sound during the presentations at BAF 2023, and we knew something different needed to happen. Sheldon stepped in and made everything work seamlessly and beautifully, and manned the mixer for the entire time.

It is not overstating to say that the show would not have been as successful without his help, and these videos certainly would not be available for everybody without him.

Formally, with much appreciation, thank you @SheldonSm
