make a change to learn how, not because of change
yes, totally doable
jfet or depletion mos (small one), same approach

Outstanding Jim, thanks again! do we need to source a bunch of 475 ohm resistors to replace the 100 ohm ones per Nelson's note?
Yes if you can find depletion mode mosfets...Very nice ideas with the circuit! I wonder if the 8x input JFets could be changed for 2x depletion mode MOSFET's?

How about DN2540N5? they are £1.39 each at Mouser Electronics, they apparently have 2367 in stock 👍Yes if you can find depletion mode mosfets...
hoping that smaller ones are having slightly lesser interelectrode capacitances than bigger ones
compare DN2530, 2535 and 2540, choose one with smaller cap. figures

One suggestion: Get the boards gold plated (ENIG) next time. It doesn't cost much extra and it makes the boards much easier to solder on, especially when they've lived in a desk drawer for a while.

Especially if this is a "naked" build, a little Bling Bling will be nice 🤩.That said, gold is certainly nice to solder.
Wonderful work here Fellas!

How much load is the buffer expected to drive?hoping that smaller ones are having slightly lesser interelectrode capacitances than bigger ones

all questions worthy of separate thread, to not clutter this one
Regarding the schematic shown in the "how to manual", the Q3 series (A, B, C and D) of jfets are acting as a current sink/source but have no source connection to ground.
Ejam is right regarding schematic, there is a missing connection from CCS JFet sources to GND
but what's one missing line between friends, we all know it must be there and it exists on pcb .............. and 6L6 evidently added that line by hand, in post #8
