With the right diameter station rotating at the right speed, it doesn't seem like gravity (OK, something that feels like gravity) is much of a problem. IMO, finding a place that's interesting enough to spend the time and money to go there is a bigger problem. Sure, mars is interesting, but is it that interesting?
Really? And those peolple in the ISS that stay there in zero gravity for many months, to a year?Very related to “deep”. “Deep space” implies you may be away from gravity for a lot more than 60 days. A week doesnt seem to have any permanent detrimental effect. Many months? Not the same. No one knows what two years would do because it’s never been tried like that before. “Hell, we’ve never even simulated it”.
I am constantly amazed of all these statements that are thrown out with apparently no thinking. No historical perspective, no imagination.
I just hope that there are no audio diy-ers among the people that will shape our future!

Europa, Enceladus, Titan. Probably the best chance of finding life in the solar system.Sure, mars is interesting, but is it that interesting
Mars probably had water and an atmosphere at one time. So, very possibly, life. Also there are those storms and that incredible volcano. So yes it's interesting enough too.
Besides, I look up at that sky at night and see planets, stars and Galaxies Like Grains Of Sand (Brian Aldiss) and how could you not want to be out there among all that magnificent stuff? We have to start somewhere...
I'd go in a heartbeat. But I'm too old and not smart enough to be an astronaut and too poor to buy me a tourist ticket.

Breaks my heart Mr Musk can be so much this (yay) and so much that (yuck) at the same time. I thought you were supposed to embrace your darker sides, not act it out, just because you can.
Me too. Probably 🙂 Big decision though. Almost certainly one way. But stood on Mars!I'd go in a heartbeat. But I'm too old and not smart enough to be an astronaut and too poor to buy me a tourist ticket.
Yes... deceleration is the problem. My wife sends to me to get bread at the convenience store one weekend. I accelerate from my drive way and drive past the convenience store on my way to work. So about half way there I think to myself I am not working today, I need to pick up the bread. So I decelerate, stop, turn around and accelerate once again. I drive past the convenience store for the second time and decelerate into my driveway before realizing I still don't have the bread... and think to myself this is all my wife's fault...
Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy....
Always thought that Clarke/Kubrick sort of nailed the whole ascent of man thing with that section. From dumb animal to sentient being via violence and brutal murder.
There is still gravity on board a submarine. You know which way is UP, and your bones and muscles don’t start deteriorating as rapidly. One can also come up for air periodically, or in an emergency.
And you can shower or **** any time you need to. Water is not at a premium.
Surface ships have evaporators to produce potable water, sailors are instructed to use it sparingly. I would imagine that potable water on a submarine to be even more strictly controlled.
Subs also have what's referred to as "hot racks". "Rack" is a bed onboard ship, a "hot rack" is always hot because it is shared in 8 hour shifts. That's enough to keep me out of the deep sea or deep space.

That is low earth orbit, almost the same as taking a long haul flight. Completely different to leaving the Earth and heading into deep space. And those peolple in the ISS that stay there in zero gravity for many months, to a year?
Psychologically, we are not equipped to handle deep space exploration.
What kind of note could you leave for your family that might help them grieve, knowing your last one is not far off?I'd go in a heartbeat.
Wait, I know, "he died doing what he loved."
Perfect.
Catalonia.
Ay.... I toss my dim sum your way. Maybe your fish sauce rot and your hockey team lose their skates at the airport.

Nuke ships and sub have gobs of extra power so they got lots of water.
I believe the (nuclear) power is used to keep vessels afloat for an extended period without refueling, I doubt they would waste any of that energy for the sailors to take bubble baths
If a nuclear powered ship uses that energy to make potable water, does it make it faster than conventional energy sources? If so, would the ship not need a larger container to hold the extra potable water? If yes, would it not slow down the ship to carry the extra cargo? Or do they just encourage the sailors to use more of it?
I have no clue, just thinking out loud.

That pretty much describes me. 😀I'd go in a heartbeat. But I'm too old and not smart enough to be an astronaut and too poor to buy me a tourist ticket.
