Thanks to @Mitch311 for suggesting this thread.
Huge thanks to @sheeple for organising the group buy
So, what will you do with your drivers from the group buy?
I intend to try them in my DIY SH50 style MEH horns.
Seen here with BMS4550s
They have to reach down to the 5" mids.
They will be used in a hifi setting and not huge volumes, hopefully they will take it..
I have a pair of BMS 4550 drivers for PA🙂
I'm using my Vitavox S2s at the moment, and have made an easy screw in adapter for fast swap over.
Here with the S2 and full driver compliment
I'm sure more then just me would love to see your builds and uses.
What's planned and what's on the work bench?

Most interesting! I will probably opt for the latest ATH4 optimisation of mabat’s horn, aiming to cross as low as possible as I am still in love with the JBL 4367…
Sounds like I'm not alone in wanting quite a low XO point.
The Mabat horns are really interesting.

What's the crossover point you're targetting? They have to reach down to the 5" mids.
Has to be some energy at 1000 HzWhat's the crossover point you're targetting?
Got to be 1st order for the coherent / minimal phase shift thing to work.
So maybe 1200Hz or so.
I have a pair of the drivers from back when they were on sale to the general public. Going to use them in an upcoming build. Very interested to see what you folks come up with as far as horns/waveguides and useable frequency response.

From what i have heard, it only sounds best above 3k.Has to be some energy at 1000 Hz

@Joseph Crowe had great success with 3d printing bigger rear chambers to bring the useful range significantly down.
We would just have to design one for this driver.
Curious where you heard that? But the larger back chamber is an interesting proposition. From what i have heard, it only sounds best above 3k.
I am also contemplating a possible MEH build with a likely 1200Hz target, but not yet designed.
Mabats ST260 on top of midbass cabinet with FaitalPro 12pr320, crossed at about 1kHz. I will probably print few more waveguides to test it with.
Sorry i somehow got that wrong. Most seem to use it down to 1.5k with higher order. So i think 1.2k and first order could be possible with a bigger rear cover.Curious where you heard that? But the larger back chamber is an interesting proposition.

Is it possible to get a 3D drawing from the manufacturer? That way it should be straight forward to design a rear cover.
Yeah, not sure about a true 3D drawing but we do have a few resources just from the Group Buy thread that should be helpful for anyone who might be interested in taking that on. I haven't learned any 3d printing software yet but maybe a project for this winter...

Would it be possible to simply use two tube sections or of suitable length to space the rear cover out further (old school lathe on standby🙂).
Without the driver here in my hands I can't tell.
Have to extend the contacts - easy enough.

Ill try it with 2-way (12" + Mabat´s horn) + other one positioned directly behind horn attached to Pelanj´s Baby Multicell which is pointed to ceiling. I have no earlier experience with ambiance tweeters and it will be interesting to see how it sounds and change polar response.
Thats a great and simple idea. I would also be easy to just make that ring out of wood.Would it be possible to simply use two tube sections or of suitable length to space the rear cover out further (old school lathe on standby🙂).

Longer bolts too of course.Thats a great and simple idea. I would also be easy to just make that ring out of wood.
Possibilities to try more dampening material..
Luckily as I've modded my SH50 rear enclosure so the S2s can stick out the back, so too can these if extended.
How to devise the right extension length?
Ultimately low frequency extension vs. max SPL is limited by excursion of the dome, before it hits the phase plug. I think one can do overexcursion with compression drivers without problems, before burning the voice coil. So, same effect, low frequency boost, can be done with EQ as well, at least to try it out whether it is something important or not, to test what are the limits for the driver. If one wishes to get rid of the EQ then try manipulate the enclosure.
I'd think it's same as with woofers, enlarge the box to get driver resonance down a bit, but also Q changes. Damping would help kill harmonics within the cavity, but also dampen the resonance reducing the low frequency output, reducing Q. What ever you do make sure the high frequency performance does not suffer as trade-off. Low frequency extension (to make full range system) is done by crossing over to larger driver at some frequency, so it's counter productive to ruin top trying to extend the low for any single driver, as there is nothing one can do to fix the performance other than revert the changes. Or use another driver that can do it if it is must to extend the low end of the tweeter.
The DFM driver seems to have very good performance eyeballing frequency response charts posted online, better than 99% of other drivers making it top shelf performance. I'm bit skeptical modifications would make it any better, odds are the performance goes down rather. Although there might be some playroom because the driver is for high SPL use and home use could be low SPL. No one bends physics, even the audiophile are bound to it 🙂 have fun with your projects!

I’ve got a few 12” options.
If looking at a 15” option I’d consider the new 15” Nero:

The NERO-15MWN700D is a nice chassis and should also run very well in ~80 liter GHP (closed with high pass).
By the way, the Tymphany driver runs excellently with an adapter on the XT-1464 from 18sound. Here is the measurement.
