DAC AD1862: Almost THT, I2S input, NOS, R-2R

I completed the second unit, which was intended to be more economical, and also as a partial by-product of the first unit. When I was constructing the first unit, I made some changes and tried to implement them all in the first one. It sounds great.
This is a very nice setup, correct me if I'm wrong, I see a Schurter power cleaner, a board to power the on/off button, and a usb jlboard input, right? Question: can you connect your phone through usb and use the black box as an external dac? I mean, will it be recognized?

You should try both w and w/o the R at i2s inputs pins. 100R strangly can often gives better resulrs too than 22R.
For some reasons better to supress the vias checking on the traces between your dac and opa.
I like the T7A reg familly... tiny integration here. I found it was necessary to keep lythic caps though. Often needed for good tonals and fot the opas whatever the regs are stable.

Is it so hard to read verified info i posted about the situation 🙂 All the stock is still in stock, whole 61kpcs, and rochester doesn't know what happened with digikey.

Not really. Scope is fine. Ear test is fine. 47uf low esr tantal like poscap is just enough with 0.1uf acrylic or c0g cap. Larger capacitance on regs output, in general lowers transient response, so depending on the implementation and application it can do more harm than good. Using modern ultra low ldo regs such as tps, especially next to load like this (as manufacturers intended), have no need for cap banks on the output other than the required ones for stability. But poscap tends to cost more, so theres that 😁

Thats ad1865 🙂 Confusion is about ad1862. Stock went to 0 on digikey over night. So i contacted rochester and their representative got in touch with me with the info that they have no idea that happened, and that all 61000 piece stock is still in stock. Now that they are introduced to the issue at hand, i expect we will see it in stock at digikey soon. Either way, one can order trough contact form via rochester website.

The situatuon was well monitored and people that have not chips for two life could profit. 😉.
On the technical speech I disagree with almost the whole. And yes noone force us ti use 100 uF caps all the time.
Problem is not it sounds not good, problem is you never know till you have heard for real the best conf that gives the same on scope. Yeah you never know untill you hear it for real.

I find the ad1862 better than the AD1865. Both are good chips and it could be personal tastes indeed. I also find better a Taiwann TDA1541A than a Holland or France made S1 sorted out. PCM63 K - P grade I have no idea ! I have only plenty of TDA1541A, many other PCMs, 6x ad1862 - 2 given ti a friend but no PCM63 k-P grade:bawling:

The Taiwann TDA1541A a s the AD1862 all grades can climb very far in sounds quality. The AD1862 I found has less needs about the front end at equal sound quality... TDA is more demanding, as for the DEM, I am very not sure about the superiority of the 100 uF and bigger DEM clocking cap other than on the paper and on the scope. Think x4 with Grunding 'enhanced or not) is better to my personal ears. Maybe whole system hifi related. trade offs trade offs 🙂a (and multiple blink eyes). I like the TDA1540 but found with clever PS the bass of a Taiwann TDA1541A were better and with better mids and the trebles 🙂.

PS, no idea about S2, I sent ninjas to some guys to steal some... they sent me back their fingers

It is not clear to me why none of you make a real regulator, but use ordinary regs in the most sensitive places and you talk about the differences about DACs, where it was manufactured,4 layers, 2 layers PCB....
