The technical reason for dual PSU should be that the music signal modulates back into the PSU-board and goes into the other channel. I doubt any would be able to measure that. Also thinking about that P3 boards having own regulators. If you also think about the poor records channel separation I could not see the idea even with my OCD 🙂 ......now I use the UDP3 pre-regulator and not the standard supply. The benefit of only using one PSU board is that then the two boards regulators get the exact same input. Using two PSU boards you will have a slightly different input to each board. That made the final decision for my OCD.
That makes a lot of sense. I think I'll stick with a single supply and somewhere down the road pick up a second Pearl 3 kit once it's not such a crazy hot commodity and available long term at the store. Thanks for the follow up!
Where did you get the idea that you have to have already built a P3 to be allowed (and to be able) to make a contribution here?Sorry for the interference, especialy as I haven't built a Pearl 3 so I am not really legitimate here...
This is a basic and well-known circuit technology that has already been realized in countless versions, including commercially successful ones.
strange 😕
The interesting thing is the question about the ideas that Wayne Colburn had in mind - what is so special about the design as Wayne proposes it?
These are interesting questions, you can immediately recognize his handwriting - and I mean that in the sense of appreciative.
Kind regards,
HBt.

Any chance you could mention some? This is a basic and well-known circuit technology that has already been realized in countless versions, including commercially successful ones
To give an example:
I am fascinated by the language of other designers and Wayne, like Nelson, has a language and writing all of his own.
Last night I looked in detail at all the development steps from ONO to the only true Pearl phono stage P1 to P2 to P3 - for me it's a language of its own and not everyone can read it, I try to understand the developer or designer, it's not just trying to grasp the implementation at hand (that's very easy), but to trace the motives and decisions made.
Just as an interjection, P1 follows 100% the well-known philosophy of the ZEN series (and the spirit of the 1990s). P2 has already departed from it, P3 has moved far away from the original idea.
I still clearly recognize Wayne's handwriting, but P3 is only interesting because it was written by Wayne - apart from that, for me personally a Pearl phonostage is only the original P1.

Of course, but I don't want to go into that field - you can search for yourself, or define and declare the criteria for similarities.Any chance you could mention some?
I hope you agree with that.
BTW
I think this thread should be (almost exclusively) about the fun factor of self-building - and of course the P3 is great fun and also a joy, as you can see from the consistently positive experience reports.
On the other hand, all conceivable detailed questions must still be allowed.

Hi hbtaudio,
thanks for your concern, but nothing really strange, no worries at all.
When it comes to OPA discussions, it can potentialy trigger discussions (same as with caps sonic signature), admittedly less so here in this great forum than on some other places.
Hence my soft approach, especially as I haven't built P3 and hence not tried various op amps in it (something I usualy love doing) - and we all know that OPA impact (and suitability of course) can be very different depending on "where" they are used. But don't worry, I feel perfectly at home here in this thread - I am into all this since a few decades even before forums where created - remember the first "Yahoo groups" to share audio tweaks?
Enjoy music

Well then, everything is fine.

Gianluca, Could it be that there is a saturation point within the DIY community and that is being reached and/or a saturation in the subset of DIYers ...ones that still use vinyl?
Saturation reached? lol… not at all.
This batch was almost twice the size of the previous, and opened for sale at 900pm EST last night, which is a very screwy time, as N.America is starting to wind down, and Europe is asleep. This batch will be gone in mere minutes after I type this post.

I was also checking the store regularly. I live on the US east coast and go to bed early and wakeup early. So at a little after 3 am I checked the store and low and behold the Pearl 3 was available. I couldn't order it fast enough thinking they would be sold out by the time I hit the buy button. I had a bad case of FoMO!Opened for sale at 900pm EST last night, which is a very screwy time, as N. The P3 kits are now sold out. 🙂
Congrats to all the happy builders who managed to acquire a kit this round.

Got one minutes ago… phew 😮💨
Thanks to Wayne, 6L6, and all involved.
