New Bliesma 142mm mid dome

This is an unusual driver, but it has some serious lower midrange / upper bass capability.
Sd = 180 cm^2, that is more surface area than a 7" woofer, and almost as much as an 8" woofer.
Fs = 65 Hz, when most typical dome midranges are 300 Hz +
Qts = 0.3, Vas = 25 liter... more like a midwoofer than a dome.

The sensitivity of 95 dB/2.83V makes this driver pretty unique. I know of no cone driver with this high sensitivity AND an Fs below 70 Hz.
Not many at this cone size. Only i know is supravox 165 gmf

This mid is pretty out there In design was kinda shocked at its size unpacking it. Next to It is bliesma, kartesian 6.5 lom pa ,purifi 8 for scale.

It look interesting.

Thing is, I don’t see the point in their shift from 8 to 6-Ohm nominal voice coils, other than it makes the driver appear more sensitive - they tested it at 2.83V, not 1W. The irregularity in the response between 1-2kHz leaves me questioning what is taking place in that region. I hope the distortion is better than it was with the M74 midrange. At this price, I would expect a full measurement set, not just the impedance and response as seen in the data sheet.

Oh wow! That open ring magnet assembly is incredible. Reminds me of a woofer that used to be sold on Madisound probably 10+ years ago. Was very low profile, had a honeycomb diaphragm and a completely open magnet structure just like that. I think it was about 10" diameter, but I can't find it anywhere online after searching for about a half hour and have no recolection of the brand name.

Prescient Audio Thindriver

disappeared into thin air (no pun intended)
I wonder what the founder is doing now…

These perimeter driven drivers are not new. Yes Accuton has a few models in the CELL range with it, but not all.

eg.
C168-6-990-CELL
C90-6-724-CELL

Like all neo drivers, they are lighter than ferrite motors. But apart from being novel, I'd like to see some data of the purported benefits.

I'd like to see what is going on in the 1.5kHz region by means of waterfall response and the distortion performance, at the very least. I don't know why these companies charge $1000/driver yet can't include measurements of their own products.

Distortion at 104db at 3 ft distortion does rise a bit below 250hz 1 percent at 96db so I would say this driver is good between 250 and 2k. My box is not good at all I've already had to go to get weather stripping. Here's 104 94 89 I would say they are okay drivers.
