HF 1440? 18s 1480Be? 1480N?time of choice .. searching the best CD for a Seos 1.4inch HORN for 800hz to 20K
here is my candidate for nearly the same price:
1 BEYMA 755ND ( titane)
2 18 Sound ND1480A ( aluminium)
3 FAITAL HF1460 ( Carbon)
which one would you pick ? 🤔
The metal Altec 1505 is my favorite. I thought the wooden ones would be better, but they weren’t. However they were listened to in very different systems, so I can’t say for sure.would you mind ranking the multicells also?
The 1505 in a medium large space is amazing.
I like the tar filled 1005, followed by the normal 1005. Damn the tar filled are heavy! The 803 was nice and I still use it for PA duty, but for a home system the 1005 worked a little better. Not night and day of course, it was just easier to get the 1005 where I wanted it.
Cal Weldon has a pair of 1803 that I would love to hear. I’ve seen them and they are huge, but Cal didn’t have them running at the time. Would they sound like the 1505 only bigger?
Thank you very much @Pano !
I have a pair of wooden 1505 replicas myself, so I was hoping those would come out on top 🙂 But like you say, this may very well be system and room dependant. I guess the metal ones may be more 'lively', I have never heard them. I like the 1505's very much, best midrange I have ever heard! However I find them best crossed over far lower than the 7khz Jean Hiraga and many others use. Like 3-4khz. They seem 'muffled' to me above this frequency, and less detailed than a tweeter horn taking over from 3-4khz.
I agree, the 1803's would really be something to hear 🙂 I think the multicells are pieces of art, they look so cool!

the Be is too expensive for me , i had the N version of the _18sound NDS3 before and it was to polite in the highs needing a lot of correction . thanks for the add 🙂HF 1440? 18s 1480Be? 1480N?
beyma 755ND and a Aluminium version of the 18Sounds looks more flat than usual 1.4inch driver , Nitrid titanium and BE versions falls early but perhaps more cleanly in distorsions..
which Faital model ? you seems a Faital boy did you try the new HF1460 i have the 1inch HF108 but i would want to go lower 900 /1K with a 1.4 driver

Are you sure they are measured under the same conditions?beyma 755ND and a Aluminium version of the 18Sounds looks more flat than usual 1.4inch driver , Nitrid titanium and BE versions falls early but perhaps more cleanly in distorsions..
Yess the 18sounds data for their compression drivers are taken with the same horns for the titanium , aluminium , BE or nitrided diagrams and they clearly don’t look the same .
on this Youtube you can see the different mesures between 18sounds diagram at the end of the video
very interesting ..
very interesting ..
End of the brainstorming i have finally ordered the Faital HF1460 textreme to replacle my HF108 , i will try it in few days 🙂

The HF10AK that i use in a 3 way design is crossed over at 4k and has the same sound signiture as the TAD BE compression driver, just not quite the same efficiency. They are really very sweet drivers.
I have used and tested many 18 Sound, RCF, B&C Comp drivers and none of them were as detailed and sweet sounding.
The waterfall from HF1460 looks really good. But the HF1440 seems able to cross a bit lower.End of the brainstorming i have finally ordered the Faital HF1460 textreme to replacle my HF108 , i will try it in few days 🙂
What frequency are you planning to cross on HF1460?
HF10AK up to 4 kHz or from 4 kHz and up? How did you find the HF108 compared to the HF108R or these to the HF10AK?I have used the HF10AK, 108, 108R the HF1460 is on its way.

4k and up!
The HF108 and R are happier being crossed over much lower than the 10AK. I do find the HF10AK to be slightly better sounding up high, but i really think thats because i am crossing the HF108R over at 1.6k to an 8" midbass driver in a 2 way

i have a SEOS 18 1.4inch so i will try 900/1K , i have FR 6.5inch cone driver so i can cross where i want , with the HF108 i was a 3K 12db i will see if i will still need it with the 146OThe waterfall from HF1460 looks really good. But the HF1440 seems able to cross a bit lower.
What frequency are you planning to cross on HF1460?
only if the Cat will let his place to put the horn
Looking forward to your result.
I'm currently considering buying compression drivers and have been impressed by the HF1440, HF1460, DCX464, and ROSSO-65CDN-T models.
However, I'm also interested in hearing from users about the performance of the DCX354.
If anyone has experience with this driver, I would appreciate hearing their thoughts.
