best 4" to 5" drivers for compact speakers

not easy to have it all in 2 L... Certainly for the price and size I would not go elswhere. If bigger is ok, there are nice small active speakers, again : Edifier (boosted low end cause DSP), Adam TV (much more expensive), Behringer at 300 bucks the pair perhaps in US with bigger midwoofer so better low end... It is a trade off to choose due to the laws of physic. Here I inputed both for the proce and low size... At 150 the kit above is a proven design. The BR was necessary to have low end and less cone mvt (better power handling and less THD).

the opposit... and there is the powerhandling too, sealed means twice the cone mvt. A little more low end with a slower fall but at F10 etc. It also slope towards the low earlier... so some dB are missing where you need it. If this driver was better sealed the designer would had done it. You want more low in small volume, it asks DSP + active.

But a lot of 4" drivers have compliance volume of .08 cubic feet or around 2L. Is it not the optimal volume for flat response?
Historically, 'optimal' volume (Vb) is Vas/1.44 with tuning (Fb) to Fs the 'optimal' BR assuming the Qt is in the correct range. For Vas = Vb, Fb = Fs, Qts' is ~0.403 per this commonly used T/S formula: 20*Vas*Qts'^3 (Qt dominates!), Fb = 0.42*Fs*Qts'^0.96 (Fs dominates!).

(Qts'): (Qts) + any added series resistance (Rs): http://www.mh-audio.nl/Calculators/newqts.html

Hm.. probably need to look into 3" drivers.

What if I buy cross overs from overnight organismic sensations kit and use a 3" midrange with similar sensitivity and same impedances..hivi makes 3" version of same driver. they have schematic with all resistance and inductor values.

So max volume I can afford is 4 liters per speaker.. smaller is preferable(3L ideal)

Here is hivi 3"

Dayton 3.5"

And few others by peerless.

Small and sealed is ideal. I am just afraid small speaker + port will sound like midrange fart cans at moderate volumes..

Were those the wooden speakers with gold /yellow colored drivers.

Which 1 ways (full range) would you recommend.

Some recommendations were by visaton, peerless.

1)

Visaton B 80 3.3" Full-Range Driver 8 Ohm

2)https://www.parts-express.com/Dynavox-LY302F-3-1-2-Full-Range-Driver-295-612?quantity=1

3)https://www.parts-express.com/Peerless-NE123W-08-4-Full-Range-Woofer-Speaker-264-1128?quantity=1000

Or any others that will have the best tremble. So audiophilish people don't even notice that there is no tweeter.

From parts express I have used this peerless tweeter.
Seems like a popular model. Will any 3" full ranges be close to that category

Very interesting. What are the sealed and ported box volumes to be used with those drivers ..

The µFonkenSET pictured is 2.5 litres, there is also a 2 litre box in the planset. Alpair fits the same boxes with small changes in venting and detail.

Really appreciate everyone advices so far..
Leaning to mark audio or chn-50 one way speaker design.

Dave I noticed that the boxes of speakers pictures of which you posted have lots of ports spread out through out the perimeter of the baffle plane of the speaker.

Is a lot of little ports better than one big port . Sort of reduction of port noise?

If so what are the dimensions and number of those ports

Definitely include a subwoofer with cabinets that small. It gives the smaller drivers a lot more breathing room and far less back-pressure. It can be a simple 6.5" woofer but it will make a huge difference with 3" drivers.
