SB Acoustics SB20FRPC30-8 (8" Fullrange Cheap Monster II)

No it's not the same without whizzer, it's a completely different driver design. eg., even without the whizzer it has a heavier cone moving mass.
Lot of other driver specs are different, eg. lower Fs. This is a bass/midbass driver. I might make for a decent addition to the FR-8 in this thread to improve/augment the bass response, though one could argue a larger driver would prob work better for that.
Sure, you could mate it with a tweeter like this for a simple 2-way in a small BR cabinet.
I am wondering if I will use this woofer to augment the bass in my OB design. The chassis shares the same dimensions and it has a lower FS. I am thinking of running a 1.5 way with the FR and this woofer doing bass duty below, say, 150hz.

Omega speaker systems use a similar principle in the high output versions of their speakers - the FR runs full range and the woofer has a filter at 200hz.

👍 same idea with a different 8" FR + 12" bass drivers in a smallish barrel baffle.

Out of curiosity I mounted a GRS PT2522-4 tweeter in a waveguide on top and crossed it with a simple high pass.
The result - it gives the whole speaker "shine", opennes, liveliness. And the upper highs are crystal clear now. Wow.

@Plott Keep in mind that your tweeter might sound different when you later mount it on the baffle. Have a watch of this guy talking about tweeter/baffle response effects. Maybe with your very different tweeter than his and having a wave guide the effect will be less.

Yes, but no, but... as a further result of the measurement I know now, that the acoustics of my living room is bad... I have a strong whip-like echo in the midrange. The dip in the midrange on the graph can also be the result of cancellation. So much fun... 😀 So just ordered some sets of diffusers and absorbers...

You can always test outside but that quickly gets old if you will be testing/measuring more than a few times.
But if it tests bad outside then you don't have to spend money on room treatments just yet.

Has anyone experience of a Rolls SX 95 stereo subwoofer crossover? When I get around to ordering the 8 inch SB woofers as mentioned above I thought about running them ‘actively’ either with a plate amp of the SX95 into a stereo amplifier/power amplifier. The details can be found here.

https://rolls.com/product/SX95

It is essentially a line-level LPF between 36 - 200hz, 12db slope with stereo output and switchable phase for each channel.

In the short term I will run one of my cheap Chinese sub amps but thought this might be a better mid/long term solution.

Hello,

I would like to try this SB Acoustics SB20FRPC30-8 full-range speaker but I have no experience in building speaker enclosures and because of the lack of space I would like to try a smaller and cheaper enclosure than the one presented in this forum tread, for example, similar to this cabinet plan:

Does anyone know if this cabinet is appropriate for the SB Acoustics SB20FRPC30-8 full-range speakers?

Try with WinISD.
SB20FRPC30-8 doesn't work so well in such small boxes. 100 liters is optimal volume in a BR box.
In a closed box, 27 liters is optimal volume.
