I just got mine today! I can confirm. They are massive. Now to come up with a project for them. Does anybody have any thoughts? I can use them in a typical power supply but has anyone thought of a way to take an advantage of the 250vdc?
I agree. Maybe something not that high but something high enough to take an advantage of that specification. I will Snoop around and see what I find
High power class AB amps with over 80 VDC rails would fit there, but I only operate in the modest home use realm, so I’ll likely work out something along the lines of a bench supply with these caps.
People will run their minds ragged picking caps for a specific amp, but I think this is the first time I've seen folks planning amps around specific caps...

They were destined for some BIG class A/B amps. I also have a bjillion IRFP240 & IRFP9240 mosfets buried in storage still in their International Rectifier boxes (in tubes) from Digi-Key. One day I'll get to them. One day...
Those irfp devices will go quickly. I'll keep an eye out for your post about them. I would be interested in a bunch at this point (well, maybe not a bunch by your standards)They were destined for some BIG class A/B amps. 812.5 J per capacitor if charged to the full rated voltage. That's nothing to sneeze at. The electric chair comment earlier isn't too far off... 🙂

@SmarmyDog many people will be interested in those mosfets too. If you really have them at matching scale, but dont want to do that, perhaps someone with the DiyAudio store could be contacted to consider a bulk deal - to keep the lot together. I dont know what their stock looks like, or who mathches them. Perhaps @6L6?
I don't speak on their behalf in any way, shape or form...but big pools of these arent discussed very often. Seems worth a shot. Could give life to many new amplifiers.
Just a thought 😉

Still - if you need 1.21 GW for let's say 1 sec, that's 1.21 GJ or 1.5 million of these caps. Not enough to time travel.812.5 J per capacitor if charged to the full rated voltage. That's nothing to sneeze at. The electric chair comment earlier isn't too far off... 🙂

Hi SmarmyDog, I'm just down the road in Encinitas and would be interested in the caps. No problem to drop by sometime.

Things got loony-busy this past week. I got called to jury duty (criminal case), am trying to get three boys off to three different colleges, and have an insane workload presently. Oh, and eye surgery this coming Monday. It might be next Wednesday or so before I can assess what I have left. Several other locals are also interested. If I still have any you are certainly welcome to some. If I don't get back to you by Wednesday PM then feel free to give me a nudge.Hi SmarmyDog, I'm just down the road in Encinitas and would be interested in the caps. No problem to drop by sometime.

Sounds like you have way too much going on to be bothered with handing out surplus giant capacitors!
I just want to do my best to get my end handled before they take their long, cold, walk to the e-waste death chamber. 😢
Thanks, Cheers

About 300 of these have found good homes. I'm finally getting back to clearing out storage and have a couple dozen of these left. They are available for local pickup in Carlsbad, CA 92010.
