Hi from Germany,any news?
I am thankful for the multItude of infos i could grab here from this threat. Especially for the link to the Audax Speaker.
I would like to substitute also my bass speaker. Do you have any idea where and how I could manage this? Sorry to take this way for a contact, but i can't see any chance for a PM here. I also tried to get some Infos through the german Hifi Forum.
Would be nice to get some help from you. best regards Frank
What is the reason therefore ? damaged resp. burned voice coil ? or is only a re-foam (new surround) necessary ?Hi from Germany,

I think, there is the only possibility of repair/refurbishing of the old one and no possibility for a replacement bass driver with the same parameter and sonic characteristic.
ask there for both cases:

I did not know they made any speakers. I knew of them by being a fan of Bob Carver beginning in 1980s. Phase Linear was, I think, his first company, or at least he was employed there. PL were known for their amps and other electronics, but a speaker is news to me.
Blast from the past! Those were my Phase Research Model Rs with the auto sound woofers. What a funny surprise. 😀
My uncle purchased them in the late 70s and gave them to me much later. He put those woofers in them. I used them in my college dorm rooms in the 90s, moved them to FL and back in the early 2000s, and discarded them over 10 years ago. I think that picture was from my basement in a previous house around 2007. I recall the tweeters were something special and the bass was surprising. Those Rockford fosgate woofers were not very good in the mids. Built-in smiley face response! 😀
Phil Clements and Phase Research had nothing to do with Bob Carver or Phase Linear, if I recall correctly. Just similar buzzwords.

nice to get a reply, cool!
Actually I have no clue what it could be.I testet the bass speaker with and without the electronic platine and everytime on a certain higher volume it starts to give cracky noises. on a low level it seems working well / better.
i got the foam changed some 10 years ago, they were partly "fallen apart" , but this time they seems to be okay. ( btw. it's just one box with problems. the other plays fine.)
How could i test it?
Best regards
Frank
ey we should found a "club" like rotary or lions club and we'll name it PHASE RESEARCHERS 🙂)Blast from the past! T...What a funny surprise. 😀....

You have test the bass-chassis in question on the other amplifier-channel ?Hi,

If the described unwanted effect is still present on the same bass driver please dismounted it and mount it rotated 180 degrees - maybe the weight of diaphragm has minimally deformed the suspension over the years and the voice coil is no longer exact in the center.

@ tiefbassubertr
thanks for this advice. A friend of mine mentioned this as well. Speakers can loose their center and deform resulting in an inadequate sound.
After changing the channel I will follow your advice and rotate the speaker clockwise up to 180 degrees.
Is this repairable? Meaning, get it centered again? Or in worst case it's a total damage? seems that i get the change to buy another bass from PR next Thuesday ( but for a couple of hundreds) .-(
Naturally I would like to avoid that scenario ;-)
It's actually unbelievable to get so much input here and on other places about an rare 'orchid' as PR ! I mean, how often had they sold it then? 1000 pcs 10000 ?
Amazing moments in Internet! Thanks you and all the others.
Sincerely yours
Frank

this company is the right contact address therefore - unfortunately his website is dead since approximately two years, but on webarchive still available:I am looking for a pair new dust cover (foam covering) for this loudspeaker.
There are a wide range of such materials available, but how can I find out, what is the best suited for this application?
Maybe this?
MyCaseBuilder - How to Choose the Right Custom Foam
Also I'm looking for material for sound insulation on the baffle, which also consists of a kind of foam.
