Anyone seen these up close ?

I cant figure out how these work. i assume magnets are in between and behind the coil of the 2 membranes.. but , cant think why this should work well... unless it works differently 🙂 if i seen one up close im pretty sure whats going on but i cant see enough detail. anyone else have more luck ? or seen there demo version ?

Planar Speakers...from the website, you would think they are wonderful...
Magnepan, read up the Wiki, they are an example.

Not as popular as regular cone type speakers.
Buy a good pair of conical speakers, lifetime investment.

thanks for the not so usefull reply🙂 im aware of what planars are 🙂

i am wondering how these work, not what you think of planars in general 🙂

Some searches refer to the device as patented, although the Veddan site doesn't seem to say so. If it is, the patent will reveal the technology.
This photo has a little more detail of the middle area.

The Veddan UFM modules are essentially 2 pleat AMTs. The pleats themselves are(as Icsaszar mentioned) large area diaphragms driven along the centerline of their longest dimension by wire voice coils suspended in magnetic gaps. Arrange a group of them in a circle for an omni source in the horizontal plane. The cross section view in the patent clearly shows magnets(5) and pole pieces(6) that make up the two magnetic gaps adjacent to the diaphragms, but don't show the voice coils themselves...other than dashed lines. The patent text gives a bit more detail on the voice coil wires.

Just when bolserst replied.. i thought wait a minute..... i see 2 pieces of metal probably with magnets in between, and the voice coil seems to be wire like thin compact... haha thanks bolserst i looked eveywhere to find the patent... could not find it.

to me whats troublesome is the huge undriven mylar part. might be me but usually that created a nice swing in the FR due to breakup. hmmm this calls for a try i think in any case🙂 it looks kind of similar to the omn ESL i once made. problem i had there backwave going trough the acoustic transparant mylar on the other side creating dips and peaks. depending on the distance. i solved it with a cone and damping. reflecting it upwards. i think they left the top and bottom open for also venting... in this case if you can call it that ?

another thing , when 2 of those flaps are used there coils are spaced apart far enough to act as 2 sources for all frequencies above lets say 10Khz

i really would like to see a measurement 🙂 i do think its fun to see sort of a new idea. not sure how well it works yet

the patent is combined ideas that are used before i think. double membrane tested that in a video to see how much gain you can get with the same magnet. (also done with esl's) using panels in a v shape as an amt multiple done that with esl's and planars. the wire coil done by everyone that made rubanoides. also done it a few times on stretched mylar. 🙂 it does renew interest to look at old contraptions with the knowledge and tools i have now 🙂

I would love to know if it sounds good. Or does it sound good because it is expensive?
Another catch is does it only sound good with their preferred demo tracks?
or there DSP. since i doubt this contraption gives a very flat response by default.... might make a mockup to see whats going on 🙂 i do use aluminium wire instead of the copper wire in the patent.. since thats stupid.

if they are on a show nearby, i think ill drop in to hear them. i remember somethign about they collaborated with a store in my city, lets see if they also demo them. 🙂 might go for a free cup of coffee 🙂

oh jesus i though they where 20k for the pair.. but its a piece 🙂 haha. come on !! i so hate this ridiculous pricing. that store only caries brands that have retarded pricing. 10k 30k 60k.... oooh lets add a 20k amplifier...🙁 the madness and stupidity of the consumers, and greed of the retail and brands.

i think i am not even allowed in there haha

I suspect the UFM is a very low efficiency driver as well, since it's "voice coil" seems to be quite small and the cabinets have a large class D amp built in - 1050 W in the ATOM and 1500 W in the ORIGIN.
i think most of that power is for the bass and all the dsp it could use. to reach that low 🙂
till i really dont know why ssome one needs 1500 over 1050 watts 🙂 haha thats already massive... why go 1500. add 1.5 db?
