The new DIYAudio forum face looks good, by any technical standards, and with a few improvements could be close to perfect.
Then why am I subjectively no longer tempted to open the forum and post? It is not the quality of the current existing content, this followed a down path for years now, it's not the bore of endlessly teaching the basics like the Ohm law, it's not the endlessly seeing the same dusty implementations of 50 years old concepts and circuit topologies, it's not reading again and again the same stupid/wrong advice and being tired of rebuking and streamlining the topics.
It's simply no longer having fun to get involved in what I subjectively perceive as an impersonal and unfriendly virtual environment. Or I am getting too old for this ****. Or I need a new hobby.
One to another, I subjectively find the new forum format annoying, which is a nice way to say I hate it. BTW, I am turned off by the ASR forum as well (same software, I infer).

A new hobby helps. I think things are influenced by this endless pandemic as well. The new format does not appeal much to me either and I post a lot less since it was implemented (which is totally fine). Since I am one of those that are perceived as unfriendly in written form I better not comment on that. Personally I don't care too much for form but like to have focus on the content. There is indeed a low level of technical knowledge in general and the trend is also that there are less and less new technically trained people. Society seem to be dumbing down with every new generation electronics being smarter than the previous one 🙂 When one realises that the balance is (too) skewed then maybe it indeed is time to do something else. You are not alone in this thinking.
Cheer up, there is enough to do to keep one busy. I am having corona right now for the second time and even then I find small things to keep me busy.

@syn08: Similar thoughts here. But I think it is more an effect of the change as such. 20years ago I got on diyaudio.com and grew my understanding, involvement and learning as well as teaching with the forum growth. Diyaudio was part of my daily routine.
It still is but different. Like growing up in a small town and then moving to the city. It's not the same anymore.
Definitely has to do with age O!

Yes life is a b**ch. That having said... we might as well try to enjoy ourselves while living it.

There is something about the new forum look and feel that just doesn't make it inviting to post / read. I'm not sure what it is. I can't put my finger on it. It looks fine but there is something missing compared to the old forum layout. It's gotten better since it was rolled out, but there is still something off about it.
These are exactly my subjective opinions. I guess we are both members of the GFB (Golden Forum Brigade).
The pandemic and the chip shortage have changed my priorities and interests for the time being, unfortunately.
Better GFB than Jitterati 🙂.
It's strange because I'm normally not one to complain about change for the sake of it. I'm not sure if it's whitespace related or what.

I used to check the forum regularly... not so much these days. It just doesn't feel like the cosy, familiar (if sometimes infuriating) place it had become for me over the years. I also realized I was perfectly happy with my current systems and don't feel like chasing elusive or imaginary improvements anymore. And COVID kinda killed the energy to build stuff just for the sake of it...

Since some seem to think/feel more or less the same I think it is in reality Covid knocking at our doors. Add the absurd fuel/energy prices and all around uncertainty about the future to that.

The new expansive layout irritates my carpal tunnel troubles. It's "only" a doubling of how far I have to scroll, but that matters after being borderline for decades.
This also applies to eye motion.
And the inconsistency of layout. To Post the button is right. To Save this edit the button is centered; why?

Indeed, other hobbies or forms of entertainment are a good policy.
I will also agree that to be happy in the world, one must keep and maintain a reasonable balance among things.
That balance means not to be focused on one thing and obsess about it for long periods.
It's simply not healthy.
At least I was able to finish the XMOS interface for my audio analyzer project. Fortunately there's no shortage of bits, so the software goes well, almost done.
