Am I subjective?

The reason, for me, that the forums are more ho-hum boring and irrelevant is because I don't usually search the DIY Audio forums seeking information about black holes, physics, UFOs, etc. I scroll right by, don't fall for the click bait.

Post something regarding audio, you might get a few replies with good advice. Why is that? Look at all the reasons on the forum above. This and any other forum need new people. Not shushing people away with crusty old fart grouchy replies about teaching Ohm's Law over and over again. How do you think teachers feel?

Bottom line: no one has a gun to your head forcing you to read a posting and get grouchy. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything. Scroll right on by. If you feel you have something to contribute, feel free. I've probably unsubscribed from emails more than I have subscribed from many of the opinions expressed here. And maybe because I don't personally know anybody face to face, I really don't care.

A rare voice in the forest of disapproval, I happen to like the new forum much, much better than the old. But not at first.
Now it's much easier to find interesting content and to keep up with threads where I have posted or watched. So easy that it might be boring. 🙂
Sure the new forum has its bugs, but they are getting fixed. The old forum had 20 years of tweaking and tuning.

Correct, I agree with all your hardcore objectivist assessment. However, this has little to nothing to do with the forum user subjective experience, which is not about better tools to search and keep up, but more about building a virtual familiar home.

Unengaging is the best word that comes to mind.

I read the thread and have been thinking about the possible undertones. I like the new forum, but I'm still learning it. Been here since 2010.
The issue here may be somewhat deeper than the difficulties with the forum. In the old days, the talented, knowledgeable people had ways to communicate and share experience at a high level without having to deal with lesser mortals. The density of knowledge was probably higher when fewer people were in the forum. Audio Amateur and the like were great places for the big brains to shine without distractions.
Sadly, several of the great contributors have passed.

The lingering malaise makes me sad in a way. Perhaps a portion of the forum can be set aside for the big minds to roam without distraction.

On another note, some contributors on the forum seem to enjoy helping even when we should be able to figure out something for ourselves. In any case, I"m in it for the long haul. Regards, HeyBill

Personally, I really haven't had time to properly reacquaint myself with the new format, nevertheless, I've noted that it's a lot easier to find replies to the threads that I follow now.
But I find it somewhat cumbersome to use the "Forums" menu to find the various subsections that interest me, it was much easier when there was a list on the left side.
Replying is vastly improved IMO.
My mind feels blank from the amount of empty space on the sides.

Hard to say whether it's a decline in general knowledge or if it's just more of everything.
I know I was an eejit when I came out of school, it just took a few years to understand that fact. I'm still stubborn and lazy and not going to change that anytime soon.

I think a little bit of fun went away when the Blowtorch thread(s) got closed. I suppose the quality of it went down over time. Even if it was often repetitive and argumentative, it drew interest. The Black Hole never seemed to take off the same way.

There is something about the new forum look and feel that just doesn't make it inviting to post / read. I'm not sure what it is. I can't put my finger on it. It looks fine but there is something missing compared to the old forum layout. It's gotten better since it was rolled out, but there is still something off about it.
This may be a case of User Burn-in. It's about audio after all. 🙂

And cost $6 a pop for the board males, plus 2 x $7 per interconnect cable. Vs. good quality SMA @$1.50 from DigiKey, I got a stock last year. I'm not about to spend 100's of dollars on prototyping cables, IMMV.
You don't need to buy solid 24K gold versions 😉.

About 2-3$ for both PCB males and cable connectors.

I don't even remember anymore how the old forum looked like...

Fortunately "we" have ASR now for the cable/opamp/cap tweakers. But perhaps some of them get directed over "here"? More likely the covid isolation rules are driving people well, intolerant and aggressive...
