I have a four way system with 2 x 8" SB23NRX per side, and 4 x 12" subwoofers. Simply adding 3dB at 35hz, really makes a big difference to most music. It's a nice little "hoompff" to the sound that put some extra fun to the music without sacrificing the rest of the bass sounds too much. My preamp has 4 presets, so that I can shift between different pre-tuned settings, depending on whether it's music or movies.
Now one of the 12" has been upgraded to a Dayton RS390HF in a closed 120 liters box... really makes a difference in the overall sensation of sound.... difficult to describe... but no smaller driver can ever compete down here IME

We got a U1 years ago from a friend who moved overseas. We weren't familiar with pricing but they sold it to us for US$1000! The kids have been using it so I am glad it has not been wasted.
Maybe not such a nice piano but you can get pretty nice ones for free if you just whant to wear them out of the house...

Ah so before the yamaha take over. Mine is 1975 vintage and definately made in England. As of today no one in England makes pianos which is a little sad.
Back to topic... Actually I think that 8" long throw low distortion woofer is something that hifi needs, basic stuff! A 6,5" simply has so much smaller piston area, even high excursion can't compensate it.
8" is rather versatile, can be used in 2-way, 3-way single, doublet, triplet. Sealed box gives very nice low bass with EQ and lots of power that are piece of cake nowdays. In 3-way systems woofer's upper end resonances and directivity are not a problem, 10-15" low Fs woofers are even better, but require wider and larger boxes that most people don't want in their rooms - at least in Europe.
Digitalthor obviously has BR tuning for his 2x8" woofers? With room gain and a bit of EQ, a sealed box 10-12" or 2x8" goes down to 15Hz with moderate distortion. Power requirement for hifi is not terrible, I use 125-200W rated classD Ncore or ICEPower modules. In my HT I have 2x15" sealed with Hypex DS and minidsp and yes, it can play even louder with low distortion(DS has built-in highpass at 12Hz!

My 2 x 8" are in 60 liters closed - BR are too complicated and unneeded in my case. They are only there for mid-woofer duty, since the subwoofers are much better at playing deep. It is also my understanding and experience, that you need 8X the displacement and lots more power, to go from 50 to 25 Hz with the same amount of SPL.
Might be expensive. Madi just increase the price of the PTT6.5 to $411. PTT8 might come close to $500. If dual per side that will run up to $2k for the woofers alone. If it goes much higher than that, I might have to go with WO24P or some SS instead.
