Not quite sure what this means. Ted Jordan goes back a long way and his ideas & products changed a lot.The first gen MA were very much Jordan-like.
I think his first 'serious' designs were the 8" Axiettes (?) for Goodmans (1960s?). This was when he thought hyperbolic cone profiles were the bee's knees. He explained all in his book "Loudspeakers" which I devoured ... and culminated in the 4" Jordan Watts Module (Aluminium cone) and the Keith Monks Titanium Cone Loudspeaker.
I looked at cone profiles in great detail, when I was with a major speaker company with some of the earliest in-house Scanned Laser Plots, and concluded his 'hyperbolic' stuff was hyperbola.
He might have came to the same conclusion as his later tiny module had a straight sided Aluminium cone. 😱
Can't remember if the Axiette had a double cone but the best full range speakers I've heard and compared in DBLTs have been double cones. Haven't listened to anything this Millenium

Du.uh! The Axiette was single cone but there was a Twin Axiette which had a double cone. Does anyone know if the Twin was done after Jordan left?
What are the best full driver?
Who are the best driver you have heard?
Please give yours choice.
Heard the following
DavidLouis Diatone :trash
Seas FA22FRZ:trash
Davidlouis yellow cone 6 😱k but not worth $471 :NOT recommended
Tang Band 2145: excellent has bass.clean mids, nice highs :$250 pair good deal
David Louis VX8, almost twin to TB2145 but in mids , The Cigar goes to the DLVX8.
Dont think any Fostex and Mark Audio will beat out my DLVX8.
So not even going to try that experiement.
Looking to order the Davidlouis VX6 and add to my DLVX8 + Davidlouis W4
oh yes the DavidLouis W4 small brother to the DL6, nice, has tight 80hz bass and easy clean mids, highs not too rolled off early :$175/pair "out of production.
IMHO the DLVX8 is the Fr to beat.
Clone of te Voxativ wood model
IMHO most likely sounds as good.
Also looking to try the Tang band 1878 W3. Might replace the DLW4. Shootout.
Ohh and how could I forget
LII Fast8 : trash
I think someone else above mentioned the LII were trash.

AER BD4 €40000
I'd like to put the AER top dawg against my DavidLouis VX8 @ $550/pair.
FOSTEX
Fe206 and FE208,. My guess is these are 2 wonderful speakers,,,hummmm might have to think about addinga FE206 along with the duo Davidlouis.
But honestly best all Davidlouis or all Fostex,
They really should not be mixed.
hummm, Might have to order a Fostex 206FS.
I like a whiizer vs no whizzer.
But then again
This 4 inch Fostex looks interesting
Fostex FE126NV 4.5" Full Range

Hey folks back in less than 10...
Yep, I gotta good hunch the Fostex is going to beat the Davidlouis.
I near 100% sure...
Now which Fostex.
I am going to employ dual Fostex.
Thing is Fostex has so many models,, I have no idea which duo will give me what I;'m looking for.
I know I want a W8 with whizzer
I want this sound, This 207 looks older model. I will not build this horn, out my leage to build, Justa basic port , thats it.
FOSTEX FE207 / Backroad horn speaker - YouTube
This is the 8 I;m considering
Fostex FE208NS 8" Full Range
Then pair it with either Fostex 4 or 5 inch
Not sure'
No scratch that Going witha W6
so Fostex W8 + Fostex W6.
Yes thats what i will build next year.
Fostex FE166NV 6.5" Full Range
Gut feeling, Fostex beats DavidLouis
By a signficant margin.
Listen to the YT vid on the 207 above
UNREALLLLLLL
No wait,
Going SIGMA series
W8 + W6
Gota hunch these Sigmas with no whizzer is exactly what I've been looking for.
The mids are cleaner w/o whiizer.
No doubt about it
Fostex FE208EZ 8" Full Range Sigma Series
Fostex FE168EZ 6.5" Full Range Sigma Series
No doubt these sigma series are one extremely clean sound. in the mids.

Are you talking about this speakers?
2 two unit Melo David audio VX8 hiend 8inch wooden cone fullrange full range speaker|Speaker Accessories| - AliExpress
Yes thats the speaker.
Might not outshhot the top AER, but can't complain either.
The DLVX8 is very accurate.
I do not expect the AER will be anything much better than the DLVX8
Argue all you wish.
A hifi speaker is only going to present whats in the recording Nothing added, nothing taken away.
If you wish to believe the AER's are so much better feel free to think that way.
Better highs in AER ? No doubt
No problem going to add a Be/Nd tweeter to the DLVX8 There same highs as AER
Better lows?
Maybe, but I'm quite happy with the lows in classical muisc ,,a few kettle drum hits...with the DLVX8 bass.
Dont need AER's few hz's deeper bass.

A significant guess, made on insufficient research, you are sort of where we started out over 20 years ago.
That does not say much about the David Louis. You are only looking at the FExxx Fostex. Personally i prefer the FFxx5wk. They do need some tweaks to become really decent, but they get away with less than needed on the FExxx drivers.

Ahh yes, got to back track
After hearing the DLVX8 just after posting the bash on the speaker, played Sophie Milman,, and really found nothing wrong with the speaker,,,not sure where I got that idea for bashing.
I like the FF5wk as it has double layered cone = more damping = less low mid/upper bass resonances.
So thats what drew me to that particular speaker.
Tweaks?
As in some some of filter cap/xover?
I'ma purist, not wanting to place a cap.
Can you tell me how the FF5wk's voice female vocals/any stress in mids? Resonances? vs the FE126NV which is the driver I plan to buy.
I need pure neutrality. No spike in any fq's.
89 db looks OK on sens
Bass at 67 free resonance looks ok
Is this the wk you are talking about?
Fostex FF125WK 5" Full Range

The female voice sounds stunning, super accurate.
Will cancel the idea of adding the FE126NV and place this
FF125WK on wish list.
I really feel this is the 5 incher for my preferences.

I'll take the 67 Fs overa 79Fs.
Sure glad you alerted me to the better specs in the FF5WK.

FYI/FWIW, per this chart: Interactive Frequency Chart - Independent Recording Network
'Super accurate' in theory requires a ~2.2" eff. dia. piston driven with a 3/4" dia. VC tuned to 240 Hz for 'fullness', so first and foremost recommend at least starting with the right VC size and nominally flat at least to < ~0.707x 240 Hz.

😕
You lost me here.
Wayyy out my range.
But thanks anyway.
The DLVX8 has extremely low resonances, colorations, stress.
I can't fault anything about this driver.
No weakness in any shape of form.
How it comapres to Foxtex's best is a guess.
I do know it voices near identical to the TB2145, So if you've heard that speaker then you have a good idea how the DLVX8 performs.
WE have big Foxtex fans here, big TB fans, and big Mark Audio fans.
Seems I;'m the loner with the Davidlouis.
Surprised none of you geeks have experimented with the driver as yet.
But at $550 its not a cheap gamble.
Can't get much for it resale on Ebay. Too few fans out there.
To me its worth double that.
vs AER/Vox 's ridiculous price tags.

Tweaks?
I have outlined them a couple times in other threads. I will leave you to search
Basically, Zig to help kill the surround resonance, thinned modPodge on the cone to halp damp rsonances, in particular the self-noise of a paper cone, and if up to it, a simple pattern of dots (acrilic train paint) on the dustcap under a coat of thiined clear acrylic gloss.
One could take it a stepo furtehr and fully EnABL them (that takes significant practise).

If so, then anything you post is strictly your opinion and based on its published measured frequency response it has mass quantities of breakup modes ['colorful' distortion] from ~250 Hz to its 20 kHz limit, so regardless of how euphonic ['pleasing to the ear'] you find it, it's still some degree of non-euphonic distortion to many [most?] others.
That said, if [big 'if' IME and not borne out to me in the YT videos] it has as flat a response as claimed in this BW, then it would probably perform well to most when listened off axis to 'taste', though the ~10 k - up BW will ideally need significant EQ or super tweeter to get any useful vocal's top end 'air'.

+1 (what he said)
It was a learning experience for me in this hobby to realize that a) drivers don't sound like their published data, b) drivers don't sound like their fanboys say. Which creates a real challenge for DIY because you ultimately don't know until you have the driver in your hands whether you will like it or not. The best way to narrow down the options is to get as much as you can from reading around, including the data sheet, and in particular by knowing what your own priorities are rather than hoping that you will land on the one best driver. I feel some folk approach this like stock picking, look at the latest financials and see what the fanboys are buying. An approach that works only sometimes.
I found out that my preference was for a larger full range driver, capable of moving some air at low frequency without a lot of distortion. Most important is that it must have no irritating resonances in the treble but need not go above 15kHz.
