The Glendale XP2 board is shown in post #9, if that's of any help.
Below is the Linton XP2 crossover schematic which will be similar to that of the Glendale XP2.
The mid and tweeter of the Linton XP2 are the same as those in the Glendale XP2, which has a 10" woofer instead of the Linton XP2's 8" woofer.

So it seems like all these XP 3-way speakers have more or less the same crossover. Do you agree it indicate a 4 ohm tweeter? It seems the tweeters are indeed interchangeable from an electrical and power handling perspective then but it’s a bit more unclear how it will affect the actual sound performance to OPs liking especially with a hearing aid. I totally agree that upgrading the crossover components would be first step anyway. To be honest I would make a completely new board from scratch not to touch the old one. Might cost a little though. We can surely help draw the schematics - the one you have linked is very good and understandable compared to the hand drawn in post 9.

My experience with the Wharfedale tweeters of this era tells me they are nominally 6 ohms.

That's for the Glendale 3XP tweeter, of course. The Linton XP2 tweeter has 4.7uF and 0.2mH.Second order high pass 4uF serial cap and 0,2mH parallel inductor
Consequently, I would be confident that the tweeters of the Glendale 3XP and Glendale XP2 are interchangeable in terms of the action of their crossovers.
I would have no qualms experimenting along those lines (after replacing the capacitors of course!).
Again, thanks for the information and yes I can handle a soldering iron without problem and indeed have both small and large versions it is just the electronic knowledge I lack - maths never been a good point in my life!

Finished them last night, painted and tried them this morning - so much better so I will certainly be keeping the 3XPs and will look for a second set with tatty cabinets to take to pieces and keep the cone and cross overs as spares.

I have been messing around with rebadged Denton 2 SP's. The tweeters look the same, even though they go right down to 1400Hz xover. I agree with the OP that the sound quality of those Wharfdale open back tweeters is really pleasing.
I hope that he has isolated the tweeters when testing the sound. If the midrange units are going up to about 5k, there is a lot of treble being produced by them.

It's 4.7uF, Geoff, not 1.7uF - obviously a slip of the keyboard!

As long as you choose bipolar (non-polar or NP) capacitors, they are OK for use in a loudspeaker crossover.
The Visaton bipolars from cpc/farnell are more expensive than bipolar electrolytics because they are MKT polyester film capacitors. These are a good long term choice, but check dimensions before ordering to make sure they will fit your crossover board, as I mentioned in post #20.

A 50/70V rating is adequate for your low power Wharfedale speakers. The original ELCAPs are 50V.
Plastic film capacitors have higher voltage ratings, making them suitable for both low and high power loudspeakers.
Unlike electrolytics, plastic film capacitors do not deteriorate over a long period of time.

Remember that the capacitor values given suit the 3XP model. You will have to visually check the capacitor values on the XP2's crossover board.
Ah, I have decided to keep the 3XPs as I prefer them to the XP2.
Whether I keep the XP2s I have yet to decide.

Can the Monacor HT-22/8 replace the tweeter on a Wharfedale Glendale 3XP (just bought an additional pair of these speakers but one tweeter was broken to pieces during delivery).
Also does anyone know if the Wharfedale 541/09 tweeter is the same as the Glendale 3XP tweeter - I suspect not being about the same size but with a covered and, seemingly smaller, back to it.
Anyone able to answer these two questions please?

The Monacor is a good general purpose replacement for this application.
You would have to replace the tweeters in both enclosures for balance.
I don't know the code 541/09 - can you give a link? Are your original tweeters the same as the 3XP ones I attached a photo of on page 1?
P.S. I would hesitate buying second hand without proof it is actually working.

I talked about replacing the 3XP tweeter in another thread.
The Monacor is not an exact fit and will require some modification to the mounting hole.
Also, the Monacors are more sensitive than the original tweeters so will require to be attenuated.
See attachment for attenuation circuit (L pad). For 5dB of attenuation use R1 = 3.3 ohm and R2 = 10 ohm (both 5W or 10W ceramic).

This was Gareth86's modification to the tweeter aperature to suit the Monacor, he used aluminium plate - see attachment.
He confirmed that my suggested attenuation of 5dB with the two extra resistors was perfect. He said "Highs are detailed, but not in your face, retaining the original sound character."

The 541-09 are a pair for sale on E bay - item number 164908779014 and, for the price are worth considering as they look very similar to the 3XP ones from the front but different at the back.
Yes the 3XP speaker shown in page one is the same as the ones I own. I also have a pair of XP2 speakers (with the blue tweeter as also shown on page 1) but will need to get round to selling them.
I will take note of the information on the Monacor HT-22/8 tweeters in case I am unable to get the actual ones - they do come up on E bay but not very often! The Monacors seem very easy to get hold of. Mod to the size of the port is no problem for me.
