Hi Rick,
Yes, my experience with the Edsyn pumps is that they last forever and you will go through tips before the unit.
I did try a ceramic tip once. Dropped it, damn! Until then it was really great. Now that I have a wood floor by the bench I will probably use another ceramic tip.

I too will treasure mine forever J-P. Even if our definitions differ. An open and critical mind is a joy forever.

Hi jean-paul,
Yes, I meant Miele, thank you.
They also made the best dishwasher I have ever had. My wife bought a Bosch dishwasher. Very, very disappointing. No better than the horde of other dishwashers we have owned. As soon as I save enough money, the new Bosch will be replaced. That's how much of a difference there is between those brands.
Sorry to hear you killed it (I'm assuming here). So, what is it? How did you murder the poor thing? 🙂

True, but that is the problem with posting. You can easily lose the tone you intended.the tone is more important than the message in some areas.

Sorry to hear the Jonard is not the same quality as the Edsyn. Something that simple, so lets just cheap out now and screw up a good thing.
I tried the ceramic tip but did not like it because the solder was coating the inside and the plunger making it bind/jamb. getting the solder out was also a PITA, so out it went.
I think I bought mine at Electro-sonic 🙂

Bosch/Siemens/Neff were good but now are produced in Eastern Europe. They are now average quality but spare parts are cheap and they can be repaired. Miele is still very good, also with induction herds and certainly washing machines and dish washers. A case of paying more and getting more and thus worth recommending to those that don't have a clue but like stuff to keep working.
The Den-on died when I wanted to clean it and removed the heater tube. Screws were tightened too much (never been removed) and the heater broke. I really blamed myself as I had 3 but sold the other 2.
No policor speak here, sorry. 1984 was a warning, not a manual.

anatech, don't put it off too long. I lost a tooth that way.
No root canals here. I did have one performed years ago on a tooth which already had a crown.
The grinding was done a couple weeks ago with the placement of a temp crown. Today was clean up, and installation/fitting.
Needless to say, I am glad to have it over with.

Let me dig the hole a little deeper. The unit I bought about 5 years ago has been a joy. 50dB quiet, energy efficient and quality cleaning. I am sad you have not had the same luck. Just as I am sad J-P has had such bad luck with the Dyson brand.Bosch dishwasher. Very, very disappointing.
You can't let it go and keep triggering to then start about the ever important tone 🙂 Opinions based on 1 machine are a hit or miss. On the other hand... repair techs judge on seeing the defective ones without often knowing that the 200 defective ones made by Yanshing they saw were a small part of 1 million sold 😀 The single defective Marillion X with digital motor was maybe one of a total lot of 5. They will likely say that Yanshing is not a good brand.
I repair such machines just to gain knowledge and Bosch/Siemens/Neff of the last 5 years fail more than they should. All are exactly equal inside but only shape, features and software are different. They all share the same darn heat pump that is now in the 10th revision or so. The heater element is a PCB wound around a stainless steel pipe and it gets an open PCB track certainly with hard water.... Replacement is a 15 to 20 minutes job but still.
BTW I did not have bad luck with Dyson as I am well informed and therefor never bought one. I am able to repair them just as a challenge so instead I had luck with them.

Hi TheGimp,
No problem. That tooth was a goner, the original cap seal failed and it had gone too far before it caused pain and the cap came off. Previous dentist. So, I had an implant installed and it became ready for a crown a couple weeks ago. Right now there is something like a screw head in there. The bulk of the cost has been paid for, but the extra $1,300 ~ $1,500 just isn't there at the moment so I'll have to wait a bit.
You really don't want to have to have an implant, but that beats a bridge from what I have found out. Doing nothing but removing the tooth is also a very bad plan that will lead to jaw complications. The implant is really the only reasonable option if you can swing it. I'm not insured either. I found out that paying for insurance on your own, they will never pay out per year what you put in. It is a giant scam, you are further ahead banking the money. That's what I am going to do in the future.

I really liked old Alfa Romeo cars but I made sure to inform friends that liked my car that they rusted like crazy, kept you standing still at exactly a time when you did not need it and that they needed expensive repairs many times in their short lifetime. That owning one was like being married to a nice princess that turned out to be a witch after a few years but that you at least had great *** for a few years.
LOL
Truer words have never been said. Like any boat, its best you if have a friend who owns it.
Hi Cal,
If you ever own a Miele ...
Miele dishwashers clean better than anything else I have ever seen. So while the Bosch aren't total junk (I didn't call them that), they are no better than other brands, but you pay a premium for that name. A Miele is also extraordinarily quiet, has a built in heater and also water softener and external valves to protect against them flooding the place. They are so well thought out it might surprise you. Do get the cutlery tray if it is only an option, I'm glad I did. I got the second from the bottom of the line and it was fabulous! It lasted about 16 years without proper maintenance (my bad).
The two things I have ever owned from Miele are so good, if I have the money, that is what I am buying. I feel the same about the Panasonic over the range inverter microwave we had (Anita killed it). We have something else now, but I'll put another Panasonic in - unless Miele comes out with an inverter model. 🙂

Today I took delivery of the Apple Siri Remote, to replace the worst-designed electronic device that I've ever had in the house - the original AppleTV remote.

I am well aware of Miele. Remember Chris I am a foodie to the core. Please come join us in the Food thread more often.Hi Cal,

Cal did not not. 50% off for new in box with full warranty worked quite nicely thank you.Bosch aren't total junk <snip> but you pay a premium for that name.
Ditto but no softener. Not needed here. Still 50% off. Well below $1k CAD take home.extraordinarily quiet, has a built in heater and also water softener and external valves to protect against them flooding the place.
Ours is rebranded under the Kenmore Elite name. It is a combo micro and convection. It's okay but it is the weakest link in the chain here as heating and micro are a little slower. The actual combo cycle is kinda fun though. We also have a Panasonic tabletop inverter model that while small, is a charm.I feel the same about the Panasonic over the range inverter microwave
We have 5 operating convection ovens in our place. I kinda have an idea of what I am dealing with as far as appliances go and what I will need going forward.

Ordered this thing last Wednesday, and since then I've been watching FedEx bounce it around in 4 different states (not including mine). I hope it's not wrecked by the time it finally arrives (presumably tomorrow):
I've owned this grinder before; it does a decent job with espresso. However that's not the reason I chose it again. I don't do espresso at home anymore; these days it's cold-brew in 2-gallon batches, so I needed something that would do a coarse grind of a pound of beans in one go.
I've been watching for a decent Bunn commercial mill like they have in grocery stores, but Jesus those things are up to around $700-800 for a used one these days! El-pass-o.
For less than half of that, this has a 1 lb. hopper and a decent motor & burrs, and should do the job nicely. Plus it will still work for the regular hot stuff as the weather changes. Last but not least it will allow me to get rid of the stupid piece-o-crap "Kitchenaid" grinder I've been cursing at for the better part of a year now. What an absolute garbage product. 😡

Today's purchases:
1. 24V 5A toroid
2. 45V+45V 3A toroid
Getting serious about some VFET designs now.

Cal, on the Bosch dishwashers, we bought ours maybe 10 or 11 years ago, and have been very happy with it. The advice I was given was to only buy the ones made in Germany, and the one I got was. The cheaper models are made elsewhere and apparently cheap and break down a lot.
Another trick I learnt from the guy who came to service the dishwashers at work (two which each would do maybe three or four loads a day) was to never use dishwasher cleaner in it. He said it was the quickest way to cause problems with your dishwasher.
He said all you do to clean them is put them on the highest temp setting with no dishes, and put a cup of vinegar in. On ours I have to wait about 10 minutes, till hearing the pop when the detergent draw opens, because it does a pre rinse, and if you put the vinegar in at the start you lose it.
Tony.
