I like these guidelines. While most of us will agree that taking a spot in the lottery just to turn around and sell your winning amp is a sacrilege, there still may be legitimate reasons that people will not want to keep their amps. Its good to spell out what's acceptable behavior, even if we find it distasteful. Granted you'll still have those seedy a**holes that just want to make a buck, and no manner of guidelines will discourage them.
All in all, I think ZM has the right take – that only one amp has shown up on the open market thus far is impressive.

ok... from the replies I got, I think I made a mistake in buying chassis...
Govt. of India is going to have fun in going to make me poorer and bring me on road...
they charge random customs duty which has no relation to invoice value....I couldnt believe when they charged more than 20 usd for pcb worth 5 usd+ 12 usd shipping..

Perhaps the seller on HifiSentralen will donate any monies in excess of the cost of the kit (plus carriage) to charity. I think that's the easiest way to keep with the spirit of the project.
Avinuca. Yeah, that would be cool. The seller should have contacted the store to get their suggestions. It is a non-profit project with a ton of effort put into getting these kits made and sent out. But what is done is done.
I agree with NP. There are cooler things to think about.

I don't lose any sleep over this. Too much cool stuff to think about instead.

hello,
can someone confirm that both shipments have custom duties prepaid....?
I was under the the above impression and from the diyaudio invoice is not clear about the same...
can DIYA confirm the same?
I'm sorry if there was any confusion.
The only shipping method we offer with duties paid is "DHL Express DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)". Everything else (from the US or Italy) is traditional, non-DDP or otherwise known as DDU (delivered duty unpaid).
This new DHL Express DDP service is only offered as an option for US origin international shipments. We normally offer several different DDU international shipping options. However, we now only ever ship DHL Express with DDP to India due to a high percentage of orders historically having problems getting through customs. I know this is a tough gig for you to deal with your customs department there.
FedEx from Italy which is where chassis ship from is not DDP.
We are enforcing DHL Express for VFET parts kits as we cannot risk losing any VFETs.
There is a balance to be found between making descriptions of things too verbose and confusing, or overly simple. Currently if someone selects a multi-origin order from the US and IT, and chooses DHL Express DDP as the US origin shipping method, and FedEx the Italian origin shipping method, the description shown is:
"DHL Express (duties and taxes pre-paid) shipping your non-chassis items from the US. FedEx International shipping your chassis items from Italy (Signature Required)"
In this case, I felt it would be overkill to mention specifically that FedEx is a regular non-DDP service. As there seems to have been some confusion, I
DHL Express DDP (duties and taxes pre-paid) shipping your non-chassis items from the US. FedEx International DDU (duties and taxes un-paid) shipping your chassis items from Italy (Signature Required).
If it makes you feel any better, we probably underestimated the duty for the parts kit and you probably got a good deal there. You won't have any more to pay on that - DHL Express sends us a bill a few weeks after the shipment passes through customs and we have to pay whatever customs decided to charge. Even if our algorithm based duty calculator or DHL gets it wrong, the figure customs is the final say in the matter. We can compare notes in a few weeks on what rates of duty were charged.

Absolutely Agreed! 🙂
I disagree:
Did Gianluca not make a profit however small it is?
Is Jason doing the process for free?
To the person auctioning his amp, it’s his and has the right to sell it off for profit or loss IMO.
Selfless contribution?

I did not get any duty payment request ? I received without any duty.
It's rare a US destination shipment attracts duty. We have seen it hit shipments as low as USD200, but more commonly it's over USD1000. So much so that we discourage anyone from the US ordering any one shipment with a value greater than that. These rules are not applied with consistency but we see swings and trends according to the politics of the day.

Good questions.
We are buying the chassis from Hifi2000 at normal rates, they are making a normal profit and the store is paying them in full for their hard and excellent manufacturing work.
The advertised offer of these 180 VFET amps is being conducted from the diyAudio store's side of things "for free". It's a thank you to those who have contributed to diyAudio the most, but open to all members so everyone could participate.
There is a small % added to our cost prices to allow for errors and problems. Once the dust settles and everything is tabulated, if there is a profit (and only IF, as the % may not cover losses), 100% will be donated to the charities. If there is a loss, I will eat it personally.
Some people purchasing kits have elected to make a donation "tip" at checkout. 100% of those from round 1 have already been donated directly to the charities (you can view the donation history at the charity page), and I ate the CC fees.
I have already personally donated $1,000 to each charity as I thought it was important to put my money where my mouth was, and I do care deeply about both these charities. If our collective donations make a meaningful difference to just one life, it has all been worth it.
As for what happens after this offering of 180 amps, that's another and yet to be decided story. There will certainly be more amps in the future, and the store's intention is to make a profit on those in line with the store's modus operandi. The store making a profit is a good thing for the forum, and allows things to happen like our current development spend to upgrade the forum's software platform (which is going well by the way, and currently in beta testing phase).
Eventually I hope the store will generate enough profit that it can pay for competent help to get me personally out of the engine room. Then I can spend more time focusing on creating fun and exciting things for the diyAudio community to read, build and participate in. I look forward to that in the medium term future, should things continue to grow and expand as they have over the last few years.
I'm very happy (and proud) to be a part of this wonderful community.

These have been sold free of lien (binding obligation).
I think it's better it gets listened to than sits on a shelf - share the love 🙂
Again many thanks to the numerous winners who decided to hand back their lottery tickets so others could enjoy the experience. We salute you 🙂

I contributed $100 to that prostate fund plus the $ for credit card fee. Hopefully it grows bigger.
I agree – we're lucky to have such an awesome benefactor keeping this place going. Thank you Jason!
My only question is: why not listing here? I think many people here would buy it at the price plus some expenses needed for shipping or any other fees related to the sale?
Other from that I think that amp is special enough in its sentimental and sonic values to own. Even if it is not your every day go to amp, it just plays differently than most of the regular Nelson's FW amps we build here. I say it is a nice amp to have in your arsenal regardless. Assuming you can afford having having an extra amp as everyone situation is different.
