Interesting.

I just checked and he is sold out but showing a different PCB. It looks like the smt version of the LSK389 has been changed to a DIP version. Not sure if the LSK389 comes in a DIP.

I wouldn't call it upgraded, just different. No RCA connectors on the rear or volume control mounting spot.

Hi EUVL,
Yes, after looking at this in more detail you are right. The devices shown are not LSK389, but some type of op amp.

Its a weird circuit that has a diamond buffer following the op amp using a CFP output into another diamond buffer for the output. I am not sure what they are trying to accomplish here. The op amp would have been sufficient, or follow it with a diamond buffer for lower output impedance and higher current.

I'm drawing a blank on this one.

Unfortunately, It does not look like we will get the same board as Chris has. This is the message that I had received yesterday.

friend, you buy this item ,

i have message the supplyer

the supplyer is tell me we have new version

Same function and performance

It’s just a little different in appearance

could i sent you new version

is it ok

I don’t know what kind of crap they’re trying to pull, but the “new version” circuit is totally different than the one Chris built! It uses an opamp at the input and other layout changes I do not care for. I replied with an emphatic NO!, I want the original board! We will see where this goes......

I’ve bombarded the seller with three messages already hammering home the point I want the original board, I have not received a reply. Either I’m just gonna get a refund sent to me without me asking, receive the new layout or receive the original board. Your guess is as good as mine

The answer to all these is actually very simple.

The LSK389 is just too expensive.
If they were to put it in the kit, they would have to raise price to a level you would not pay.
So they use the other another HDAM circuit which is the diamond buffer.
It is also called HDAM by Marantz.
So they did not lie, in that sense.

Even if they sell you the original PCB, I wonder if you would still want to pay for the LSK389 yourself.

The guy who sells you on ebay is only the dealer, not the OEM.
There are at least 2 parties in between who want a profit; ebay as well.
If the cost of the kit is more than 20% of the final sales price, they don't make money.

Don't forget they have to pay import duties to get LSK389s into China first.
Just not worth their trouble.

My 2 cents,

Hi Patrick,
I had the same idea, the board version in those premade units is slightly different it’s either 1.0 or 1.1, probably minor layout differences as the components all look basically the same as Chris’s 1.3 version.

That does take the fun out of the small group “build party” that was informally starting. Kind of like cheating to the finish line, Hahaha!!
