Actually, our brains are kind of like FFT analyzers. Just not to the levels in the noise floor.
Noise near the noise floor can tell you about PCB layout issues, and then you will have a raised noise floor. Generally, the entire picture gives you a better idea of how well designed an item is. All information is of value. What we can actually hear is highly variable between people and the day we observe the equipment.
