DIY Sony VFET pt 1

I somewhere comited to post pix of my build, oh silly me ;-)

Before I completely ruin your eyes with my "artwork" and" soledring skill"s which stand no chance against Jim / 6L6, at least I can post proper pix of the chassis LOL

Attached is the package you will receive from HIFI2000 / Modulo, received within a couple of days and well packed.

The paper is DIN A4 so you get an idea of the size of the package and... it is quite heavy :)))

If that's the right thing to do, I will post from now on pix of the content/parts and later assembly on the builder's thread, as I guess it was opened for that, unless I should post here.

Enjoy music

OK, OK :)))

I am posting here then: I wanted to avoid double postings so should perhaps carry on here.

I didn't want to unpack everything and check everything as that should best be done quietly in situ where the unit will be assembled.

But it is perhaps of interest to answer a few questions, so...
- everything looks predrilled :)
- there are many nuts and bolts so probably all what is needed for the assembly, and instructions are provided
- 4 feet are provided aswell... looks really like ready to go
- on first sight the chassis looks well built and well finished (to be inspected in details later, as I haven't unpacked the isolated parts), and the fins are quite big and stylish with an ondulating profile
- everything is very carefully packed and repacked so as to have no scratch etc., looks really like a quality item so far, can't wait to unpack the rest to see the facade etc.

Are there any negative so far? Not really!

OK, the feet look a bit flimsy on first sight and are probably hard plastic with some thin felt to stick underneath. Not that I think it matters a lot or is visible, but perhaps less on the par with the "real" chassis parts. Not that one can't easily change them should one really wish to, or add some thin anti vibration rubber stuff under them as they aren't very high so quite discrete. No prob on my side, just mentioning...

Enjoy music

That has also attracted my attention to the HIFI2000/Modulo shop for another power amp build of mine... quite nice their Dissipante range.

I am very pleased with the service and parts provided, so really good stuff so far and now considering them for the casing of future builds.

I can see that most experienced builders here are using them since ages, so while at it... for power amps, you guys prefer to go for their steel covers and rear plate, or aluminium ones? I would take a reinforced bottom plate for the weight anyway, so the discussion is really around the back panel material panel I guess (1mm steel vs 3mm aluminium).

Nothing to do with this project as here HIFI2000 is delivering everything predrilled :)

Thanks for your advice

I’m like a kid on Christmas Eve! Before bed last night the chassis was in Paris CDG. Overnight it went to Memphis, met with Elvis, toured Graceland, then flew to Cleveland, and now it’s on the delivery truck!

Yep, steel can be anything, depends on the composition and carbon content etc.

Actualy if I understood correctly Gianluca, the 1mm steel back pannel is more solid /stiffer than the 3mm aluminium version. Due perhaps to soem kind of reinforcements in the angles.

I was more thinking "is 1mm steel easy to work" and "is that thick enough for LS bonding posts & Co"?

One positive is I wanted an intermediate amp project before going for the complicated thing and this VFET project is the best that could happen, as I will have everything in hands on a real case...

Oh, very sorry, I just packed everything back in and sealed all again to be ready for transportation to where it will be built- (in another flat in fact, without children but with high efficiency LS waiting :).

So the size of the feet will have to wait, perhaps ask Gianluca if in a hurry?

More than all the the sizes, you probably need to know the size of the hole / thread to mount them on the chassis, if wanting to order aluminium ones. I had them in my hands, it looked small... 4 or 6mm perhaps???

Sorry again
