Goldmund Wiki and build 2017

Agree, I mentioned my AB test in this thread before, that 2SK1058 is not comparable to Exicons.

Try to use BUZ900, or Hitachi 2SK134/135, though EOL. But you can still get new and good Exicons from Profusion in UK.

Huge difference will be noticed. The 2SK1058 has weak and tough bass, the highs is not as clear as Exicons.

When listening to 2SK135/Exicon, the bass is punchy and vivid, the high is warm and charming, soft.

I have 18pf 22pf, I'll use it

The hm3s sounds great, have bought several boards however, as they are a high strung design in my opinion. It appears that one set of pre-drivers was left out of this design, and I think it may affect the long term durability. I haven’t spent any time doing any repairs or forensic examination to the dead boards however, am too busy, so I just order more since they are cheap.

This design is very sensitive to inputs, as there is no capacitor isolation. I had a garbage cable that had a 3.5mm mini jack going into a preamp, and it smoked both boards upon startup. After changing to proper rca connections, all is good.

Second set of boards had one create a loud buzz, along with some offset if I recall after a year of use.
Third set of boards ordered after another board developed the same buzz, probably an oscillation.

Am coming to the point of considering a better version now, but have added tiny ferrites to the gate leads on the outputs, as are on the original.

The other clones that are the basis of this thread probably sound great, and have less issues I would hope, since they are a more faithful copy of the original version.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the question. I run them by ~60VDC per rail, 1~2 pair. About output, yes, around 100W, I am using bookshelf speaker so no need for higher power.

The GM8-Deluxe with interchangeable module makes everything interesting. I am going to build a module with 2SK170 pair, without damaging the mother board!

Is anyone interested in Group-Buy of GM8-Deluxe?
I can make some very good quality Gold-Plated, 2Oz-Copper, 2mm-thick PCBs.;)
Hi Erikovsky, do you a pair of GM8 deluxe available?

Hi,

I build up two GM27 preamps using Motorola MPSA42 & MPSA92, the one i build without machting the offset on the output was 60mV - 70mV what is pretty high. So matching the MPSA is needed at least they are used in the Current Mirrors. When i build with the matched MPSA offset was 5mV to 10mV without for touching the offset pots.

On the schematic of the GM 27 I don't see the values of the supply voltages but I believe they are these Vcc + 40-0-40V. So you need a transformer of 50VA with two secondaries of about VCA 35-0-35. It's correct?

GM 27 MPSA42 and MPSA92 Motorola

I have the exact same preamp board which I am using as my main preamp since 2013. Never had any issues with it. It works perfectly fine and I think it sounds quite detailed.

I have never carried out measurements but it's dead silent. It gets a little warm but nothing to worry about.
The board layout looks like the original G27 preamp board

I want to buy the original Motorola MPSA42 and MPSA92 transistors where can I find them?

They sell the complete kit or just the pcbs?
