Here's Elton Motello singing a very very risque tune [as in banned from all TV and radio stations on Planet Earth] during a German TV show.

The tee-shirt is just another nice touch!

There is scope for an overlap with the Reggae thread!
This lot is generally classed as a punk band but not long after this gig was recorded in Paris the lead singer died of a heroin overdose and the rest of the band recorded a dub album with Mad Professor as Ruts DC (da capo - back to the beginning) and prior to all that they were employed as the backing band of Ska legend Laurel Aitken.

And from the states there were the Bad Brains:

Hi,
Never thought that somebody would ever mention the Bad Brains in this forum... still have the original LP from that time... when I was young and punk.
My favourite from those times are still BEEFEATER - Plays for lovers, of course original vinyl only...

Anything goes, I think there is a theatrical element to punk and really not caring much what others think. To me, Kate Bush will always be a punk 😉
Hi,

Saw them in Berlin back in the day.
Here's Elton Motello
Ouch! first chord: i know this tune!!!

🙄 labels needed to reuse the music.... Plastic Bertrand doesn't deserve the title of punk in any possible way ( Malcolm McLaren syndrom)
Ligeti as a punk. 🙄 Lux Aeterna is difficult music too ...but there was some dedicated 'diva' within the genre ( let aside Nina Hagen), for your own pleasure (or very probably not): Diamanda Galas:

It hurts...

A thread about Punk would not be complete without a mention of The Ramones.

The producers came up with the sound and gave it to Motello who rendered it unsaleable with his lyrics. So they got the drummer (P.Bertrand) to stand in as "singer", hired some other guy to actually sing and wrote alternative lyrics themselves. A pop hit was born.
Thank you guys for those stories and discovery!
Another amazing band from Detroit. Incredible cultural imprint this town have on music.

SinceSteve mentioned The Ramones one song is clearly not enough so here is a good chunk of a whole gig.

Thanks to the great John Peel here is another early one:

John Ellis the guitarist on the right of the picture went on to play with Peter Gabriel and replaced Hugh Cornwell at The Stranglers after that.

Could this be considered as punk (or proto-punk [emoji851]) too?
