And what did we buy today?

I got groceries yesterday. First time actually inside Superstore in almost a year. Their CoVid precautions don't inspire the most confidence. While there I bought light beer for the first time in my life. Need beer for Superbowl but has to be keto now.

Bought a PCM5102 I2S DAC and some foot long terminated ribbon cables for the receiver side of the DAC.

About to buy a used microwave vent fan once a potential seller clarifies shipping.

Such a short cord is useless, cutting an 8' board means dragging the extension reel along with the saw. Worse, you place the extension reel halfway and trip over it whilst sawing. It won't even reach across a 4' board width and down to the floor.
LOL... Agreed. Just saying that most professional grade tools are usually designed around the lowest common denominator (i.e. the biggest or most inexperienced oaf on the jobsite). I'm sure we can all agree that swapping the cord is a miniscule tradeoff for enjoying a tool that could last a lifetime. If you really want to go all-out just do what this gentleman did.

Duke: Nice triple-whammy score on the Marantz units! I'm curious though; What is the turquoise-colored amp? It looks like there's a quad of 807s behind that faceplate.

And it was groceries for us, too.

I tried an extension cord. The problem is that the connectors usually get caught on the edge of the board during a cut. Extension cords are, as a general rule, annoying.

Ultimately I decided that the best solution is a longer cord, which then gets zip-tied to the vacuum hose for dust collection.

..

Or possibly Jordon ?

Hoping that stuff I ordered get sent from China before the celebration starts:
A +/-12V and a +/-15V PSU board to power my modular synth.

An XR2206 generator kit to fiddle with (try to voltage control it)

Some nice "rats" (Ratt is Swedish for knobs and steering wheel) - yellow, white, red, purple, orange, green, brown, blue and black.
I have a flair for this kind of small sh*t.

I just designed some boards and ordered some up. I designed a new output board for the MA-1. Added support for 6AS7/6SN7/6BX7 etc.

I also designed a "little delon" that's even smaller than the first one, and a VR regulator with a zener for two stage operation. Raw B+ gets dropped by resistor/zener, and then VR tube drops it the rest of the way.

Just received my Keysight 6812C AC power supply. Don't ask how much!

It allows me to put known AC noise on the line so I can develop better power supplies. Packed, it weighs 76 pounds, so very heavy. Now, where to put it on the bench? It looks to be about 24" long, maybe longer. Rack mount.

So far I've bought from Keysight, a 34465A meter, MSOX3104T scope, N9310A RF generator and now the 6812C AC power supply. That's it. I'm done - and pretty broke!

Wow, all new?

So I am curious, what do you plan to use all this gear for? Service &/or Development

I took a quick look at the specs for the N9310A RF generator, because I do tuner work.
One spec in particular caught my attention and should be of concern for FM broadcast tuner usage, if you plan to use it for detector linearity measurements or adjustment.
Frequency modulation (Fc ≥ 100 kHz)

Distortion 1% 1 kHz rate, 0.3 to 3 kHz bandwidth,
deviation = 50 kHz

As a comparison, I measured the 8656B I have and used the Amber 3501 as the ext mod source. This is measured using the 8901A modulation analyzer and the demod back into the 3501 for analysis. We are in the 0.1% ball park for a 1KHz with 75KHz pk deviation. I have a HP 11715A which does a bit better using this setup. The 11715A on its own is spec'd at <0.02% for < 100kHz pk deviation, as there is a technique to measure its linearity.

Hi Rick,
I have a number of generators and audio oscillators I use for ext modulation. I also use an HP 8656B, 8640B, Sencor SG80, Radiometer SMG1, Sound Tech 1000A, Jung Jin JSG-1000B and now the N9310A as well. I also have an HP 8901A and a Boonton 82AD for modulation meters. For THD I have an HP 339A, ShibaSoku AD725C and an RTX-6001 (really very nice!) and an HP audio analyzer - forget the model #. There are also HP 3585A and 4195A for spectrum analyzers. :)

Yes, I do service work and design work as you surmised. With the equipment I have, I am working in the -120 dB range at times, occasionally lower. The AC power supply will also generate very clean mains voltage if I need it. I also have a ton of test jigs I have built over the years for specific things. The 6812C really helps me with power supply and regulator design as it contains an arb.

That new gear is current, calibrated and can be used to cross-check the calibration of the older equipment. One of the uses of that new generator is to crosscheck the other ones.

I often use the MPX out from the SMG-1 to modulate the other generators for an FM stereo output when needed. To set THD in FM, the 8656B or the SG80 gets the nod, although the Jung Jin units aren't too bad either. For separation, the SG80 or SMG1 are used along with the Keysight 34465A meter. That is an absolutely lovely meter!!
