Hornresp

just think about the changes that would be required to the user interfaces to specify the offset conditions, particularly in the Loudspeaker Wizard

This is how it could be done in the Wizard (see attached). Ok, that's for specific an offset in the rear volume, but ... 🙂

I have found the problem - it will be fixed in the next update.

For a perfectly accurate comparison the OD record should be changed as shown in Attachment 1, to make the simulation model identical to that of the CH1 record.

Vrc changed from 1.00 litre to 658.06 cc
Lpt changed from 128.91 cm to 127.91 cm

After the update the results will become identical, as shown in Attachments 2 and 3.

Thanks David! The box is small enough and the driver cheap enough, it might just go straight to saw dust.

The main concern is tuning on the HF resonator. Is it is close enough to the 3rd order resonance of the LF side and can it overcome that resonance. Not too worried about each detail of the model. That is why we are starting with a 12", there is the potential the box becomes fire wood 🙂

Nice try - but what would the Schematic, Schematic 1 and System Model diagrams look like? 🙂.

Well, since you asked... 🙂

Schematic - no change (that shows the actual horn, not the chamber)

Schematic 1 - see attached 🙂

System Model - see attached 🙂

That's basically what I was thinking when trying to add more segments to the TH function (remember TH3, TH4, TH5, etc).

Game changer is what that is. A whole lotta ‘new territory’ exists just over that hump. I know a lot of us have seen shadows or hints in many ways(using partial sims to try and tease ourselves.

Is it the reality that 1/4 of the full wave form can only exist on each side of the cone, and anything ‘more’ than that has got to be a FLH and sealed rear chamber or its essentially just redundant cancelation... i think so?

I have one other question regarding velocity on an OD model vs a CH model. There is a good delta between the models, which would be the most accurate?

Just realised that I never got around to directly answering your question - too busy looking for bugs... 🙂.

The OD model is the one currently giving the correct result. The CH1 model will also give the correct result after the next update.

(I suspect that you had already worked this out from the other information I provided earlier).

Sounds logical to me.

I dunno if theres any ‘new’ stuff to find? Or ‘unique’ to explore? We can just twist and bend the things already discovered and pioneered by those before us. Most recent ‘unique’ to acoustic shapes and ideas in ‘wood’ have been the many morphs of tapped horns/pipes. With rOar and paraflex adding a chamber to it and the Tapered tapped QW tube with another twist in the plot. Actually, Im forgetting synergy. Havent tried that yet.

Hi David,

Newbie posting here (but I've been following the development of your amazing tool for quite some time).

I've got an interesting feature request. Currently in TH mode when the driver is Throat ported Vrc and Lrc are essentially unused parameters. Would it be possible to use Lrc as a switch to allow these to function as an extension of tapped horn throat chamber port? I.e. they would become Ap2 and Lp2? This would allow for the modelling of more complex path arrangements / allow for accurate modelling of throat chamber effects in dual expansion throat paths?

There will always be new stuff to find. People will keep looking at different ways to get the best out of the resources at their disposal. Example - 3D printing the phase plug - you can get as complex as you want without having to worry about intricate machining.

Hi thomgiles,

Your suggested new feature is certainly interesting and would not necessarily have to be limited to tapped horns (think back-loaded horn with a throat adaptor plus an extra segment). Unfortunately though, I suspect that it would require just too much work to fully integrate into Hornresp. I will have a look when I get a chance, but I cannot promise anything at this stage, and just between you and me, would be quite surprised if it gets the tick of approval to proceed 🙂.

Kind regards,

David

After having had a closer look, I simply cannot justify the amount of work required to add the requested new feature - too many things would need to be changed.

Another one for AKABAK...

You take your time, Mr. McBean, you most certainly have earned it. Theres is no rush, but theres no akabak to find out what REALLY awaits us all?

Akabak is not the answer, if it was then the things that might exist that we are almost discussing or dreaming up would already.

I think heres an Example: Using( 1/4 )of the assumed (full wave as 1/2wAve total) placed as a single fold pipe off both sides of an oscillating cone bisecting those two ( qw) for the assumed full wave. It still leaves half of the (full wave) as cancelled. But thats a lotta BW!

In other words put that driver in a tapped entry at start of one pipe and the start of another (in series to eachother) and connected at the halfwave point of the (fullwave). If folded in such a away to bisect those two pipes to LP filter each in half, the clouds go away and the sun comes out and dries up everyones tears and the planets align and.... humanity is saved and world peace and equality is forever represented as the speaker that David built:

The half a wave in a tapped doubler cut into QW sections. Just needs some appropriate TS parameters and 4 pipe segment CSA choices to be made at folds and driver entry.

Mythical cabinet or McBean Magic, neither will ever end theyre both REAL already!!
