Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

In my opinion, it is quite rude of you to come to this thread and crap all over it with your jitter fetishism. You should design your own DAC if you don’t like how this one is implemented.

I don’t prefer or care about R-2R DACs, but I don’t come to this thread to bash its design. It’s funny that you trust Soren to design the DAC but don’t think he understands how to clock it.

I'm a customer so I have all the rights to comment a device I have bought.

Moreover we are on a diy audio forum and not at Lego Land, so it's enough obvious talking about design choices.

And please, read carefully, "speculations" are from others (customers) not from me.
And if I read right (maybe I'm wrong) the comments I have reported are not so enthusiastic.

And finally yes, I'm building my own DAC (a pair to be precise) and I will be happy to hear anyone's opinion on my project.

I have to admit I've lost the thread of what's bad about the DAM 1021 and what every jitter is called by first name.

I love my Soekris as it is right now.

You made my day

IMHO here is the the LEGO land, boards to purchase for putting things together so final gear with PSU & RF shielding & earthing & connected HIFI gear to measure is an opened case. So the listen will be always DIFFERENT. Even when you change small parts it will sound even always different to a phantom, while no one heard the original audience of playing, what would be the real beef question. Some kind of music would be better to detect false behavior, as mostly acoustic with much room information. Multi mic would destroy even the final music event.

So enjoy to listen to none amplified music and train the brain :umbrella:

I posted something similar a while ago, I agree it shows rather bad taste and a lack of respect to claim there's major flaws in the Soekris DAC and not back that up with clear and irrefutable evidence rather than some self proclaimed jitter fetish.

Unfortunately I know, just take a look at the last posts.

It is practically impossible to keep the discussion technical, most of the posts are fanatic exclamations that have nothing to do with the spirit of this forum.

Every time I tried to approach a technical discussion around the design I only got insults.
The curious thing is that my last comments were answers to questions from other members, moreover about another device, nothing to do with this DAC.

But evidently people prefer to insult before reading.
However for me it is not a problem, I am only disappointed that the spirit is becoming that of an electoral campaign rather than that of a place where technical topics related to DIY audio are discussed.

Andrea, don't forget we are in the vendor section here and Soren has been sharing a lot and is giving a lot of support to the community. It is amazing how he is keeping his cool around you, knowing you are just developing your own stuff based on his product. Sorry, but it crossed my mind that all of this starts to sound like a cheap product placement strategy from your part.
I'm pretty sure everybody understood your point of view, stop repeating it as a 10year old at every opportunity you get.

Precisely because we are in the vendor section I am the customer and therefore I have every right to comment on a product that I purchased for 350 Euros.

And since the product was featured on a DIY audio forum I also have every right to modify it as I see fit.
There are those who upgrade the power supply and there are those like me who upgrade the front end.
Exactly the the same diy approach although a little more difficult.

And it seems to me that you haven't read the topic of my latest posts either, I have replied to TNT about another device and not about the DAM1021.
So the comments and the insults about the DAM just don't make sense as we were talking about another device.

Moreover, as I have said several times, I have no commercial interest because I'm not an audio professional, I work in IT and audio diy is an hobby.
Therefore I share my designs, I'm happy to hear any opinion on my devices, usually I answer all the questions without insulting anyone and I try to keep the discussion technical rather than posting "I like" like on Facebook.

Not with claims that are opinion rather than fact as you continue to ignore any questions that are at the basis of your claims: where are the measurements, the technical foundation and the comparison between Soren's and your approach showing clear benefits in your favor? Lacking that, and I'll put it bluntly, you're behaving like another audiofool egghead on DIYaudio spouting nonsense.

You should read better before posting, the claims are not from me, they are from some members that have reported different results changing the source.

Then I have tried to explain where the issue could come from, my technical point of view.
I repeat since you have not read: a FIFO allows to get the source and the DAC to operate in different time domains so nothing from the source should affect the DAC.

Do you know what I'm talking about? Do you know how a FIFO works?

If so, please explain your point of view, let us know the reasons why the source could affect the DAC using two different time domains.
I'm very curious to know your technical opinion.

I don't remember I have read your technical opinion, please point me out to your technical explanation if exists somewhere.

Any engineer worth his (or her) salt does not simply discredit someone else's work without providing ample and convincing evidence that there's indeed shortcomings, or even flaws, in the design. He (or she) makes sure the basis of his (or her) claims is solid and can be verified by a 3rd party. Failing to do so reduces your claims to mere opinion and hearsay.

Exactly as I expected, your technical opinion has not ever published.

One should avoid talking about technical aspects if he does not have the appropriate knowledge.
