Dual Mono F5 Build
Here's my dual mono F5.
The transformers are outside the box to improve sheilding and reduce heat buildup inside. The capacitors are outside to reduce heat induced aging.
The heat sinks run about 110F at 1.35A bias.
Each channel has a 300VA xfmr and 8x 22,000uf cap. It weighs 58 lbs.
Thanks for the DIY community for the inspiration and high standards.
Special thanks to Nelson Pass for sharing his designs and knowledge.
I'm currently feeding it with a Rouge RP-1 preamp and driving Boston VR-40s.
Sounds terrific🙂

Pretty cool! Did you anodize the heatsinks?
Now that is a nice looking piece! I love the thought that went into the design and the outside the box thinking of a modern classic design.
Sweet!!

Das Car: Very attractive heat sinks! Did you machine the edges after you anodized them?
Ya, looks like he did for an accent, it worked nicely.

Hello Das Car,
a nice music machine! Some really cool thoughts went into your build. 😉
Is that 'wrinkle black' paint on the covers of the transformers? I use it on engine parts....
Enjoy the sound...

Dual-mono A3 boards assembled onto a horizontal “chimney” (nine thermal-expoxy-bonded 1” square aluminum tubes). As a retired engineer who first attended art college, most of my designs are of a 50/50 visual/practical split.

New appliance heat element
Very nicely done ACA clone boards - Antique toaster as chassis, initially figured the “flaps” would perform adequate heat sinking, though rising temps prompted the addition of actual heat sinks (and then razz pi fans). Using a Meanwell 24V/15A supply that yields great results - Not your grandma’s toaster 😉
