I think we are all fed up with String Theory.

But I enjoyed Ads/CFT as an element. Transforming a 5 dimensional AdS space into a 4 dimensional CFT one is a good technique for simplifying a problem. But broken because we don't live in a hyperbolic AdS space AFAIK.

Conformal mappings are a brilliant engineering technique. The preserve right angles and lines turn into circles. You start to see them everywhere:

When I did audio filters, the good solutions always led to right angles and Pythaogoras.

All Mobius transformations, you see:

But you have to step up a dimension to see the pattern. Same happens with Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism. In 3D there are 4. in 4D there is only one, and its relativistic. 😎

Reason I like Lenny Susskind, the Father of String Theory, is I sense his fundamental honesty.

He is actually very sound and.grounded in Relativity and the Standard Model.

My view is the Physics and Mathematical Universe is just way above the level of Monkeys who jumped up into trees to avoid Tigers

But really, if we solved the problems of the Universe into one sort of Equation. Where would lie the interest?

There's a large number of purely theoretical mathematicians that are very interested.
As-in: Very interested in trying, but I suspect it would be an extreme anti-climax if someone found a short one-line formula that sums up everything very neatly. Even worse if everyone agrees about it, people like to argue.

Problem is, if you read a bit of Sabine Hosenfelder, there are HUNDREDS of theories by learned and brilliant theoretical physicists trying to unify relativity and QM (if those indeed are even the right things to unify - there are known unknowns, unknown . . . . 😀 ) and we remain completely stuck where we are for 90 years. Relativity went one way, and QM the other.

Like I said earlier, why the hell does the universe have to be so complicated!

🙂
