The Weather

I have decent studded tires for ice. I use them on a road bike frame that has slightly wider back frame than usual. I commuted to and from work a bit (24 miles each way) years ago. Mostly because my pickup truck died in October and I could not buy anything. Still fun to get out mid winter some times and try to burn off the holiday treats.

Bicycling in the snow, that has to be a fun sport. Do they make special tires?
They do make winter tires for bicycles but you'll be better off with a "Fat Bike". It's good on snow and off road riding during warmer months.

There are tyres with spikes (A great name for a rock group - Tyres With Spikes) sold in Sweden and probaly elsewhere.
Bike lanes are plouged and sanded here, but in case of heavy snowfall, the main roads are prioritized and you have to force you way through a feet of snow.

We hade a few millimeters of snow the other day, but it disappeared quickly. Temperature is around ZERO, it's cloudy, no wind and very very very gray and dull.

I hope I have cought a cold (got my flu-shot last week) but just in case will be tested for CoVid-19 tomorrow.

That's a pretty plain house for Norway

Yep. Nothing fancy, originally built in '56, bathroom is new, the kids have their own rooms, I got some space for brewing and my little den in the basement, mini-workshop.
Still expensive enough, now with the interest rate being low I'm working hard to pay extra on the mortgage.

+1 and soggy snow, but getting colder.

Negative??!!! ME??????? I am always positive ... :sorry:

No fever, nose running occassionally, coughing occassionally and feeling a bit "low". The CoVid-19 is a tricky virus. Hear about people that have mild symptoms, and out of the blue they are rushed to the hospital.

I got my tyres swapped (winter boots with spykes) a week ago. Winter tyres mandatory from Dec 1st or earlier if the read calls for it.

I'm finishing my work by the PC, its 11 PM and I will go horizontal in a minute, but I have opened the door to the balcony and even stepped outside, but it wasn't cold really.

I used to run Swedish studded dirt bike tires for our occasional snow/ice enduros. Trellborg was the name of the company I think they recently got bought out or merged with Mitas.
Some of the best tires I ever ran......you wanna talk about painful if one got run over (don’t ask how I know!)

Hope you get better soon!

Hey Bigun, love the pictures! I assume they were black-and-white by design, but if not it was a "happy accident". They're reminiscent of several I've seen from the 1930s and '40s from the Library of Congress - like the one below in Woodstock VT.

Never had studded tires that could cut anything.

Anyway. I do have my Surly Ice Cream Truck and I've taken it out in very deep snow sometimes, it has an ridiculous amount of grip. Had lots of bikes with various setups and tires, but my best experience with winter was when I decided to change to the first version of the Schwalbe Super Moto (closest thing to slicks), after working on my traction for a bit I could go directly up the steep hills in Ålesund on slush, I never changed tires that year, great learning experience.
Took me some days, but after a time I could go nearly as fast as with regular tires.

Good gear is nice, but it can be good for you to experience things you need to compensate for.

And with those weather conditions, no sun, no wind, Sweden will abandon fossile fuels...whats next in your country? Blackout day in November?
Its getting dark 17:00 here now in germoney. No wind, no sun, but we surely change to electric cars and abandon all other power sources.

Talk is cheap on E everything, when the rubber hits the road the truth be known.
The electrician that I hired to do the new 200A service upgrade, said most homes do not have enough service, (let alone charging stations wiring to the garage) to charge cars. I have a 40A circuit out to the new garage, so I am sorta ready :)
Folks in the rich areas of Toronto are upgrading services into the 400-600A range, the current infastructure will not support it already.

So the snow is melting, wondering if we will have snow for xmas, rain in the forecast. its 4:40PM, sun is setting fast, a nice fall day at 4C. We drove around the lake a bit, lots out walking there dogs. Geese chopping away on sorta green grass. Well see if they harvest anymore sod. Weather man out.
