2 miles is a bit of a stretch for 1.5 miles Derby Winner Anthony Van Dyck, IMO. I might have ago on Willy Mullins. His horses tend to last the distance. But I expect the O'Briens to spoil my party.

The time zone is all a bit confusing, so I rushed down to my bookie. :D

Stratum Albion is probably wondering how it got flewn to OZ.

Unfamiliar smell of Eucalyptus and those flippin' Koalas and spiders and snakes everywhere.

Anyway, we have £5 each way on this Nag. 33-1 works for me. :)

I am still pretty upset at what happened to Anthony Van Dyck. :(

After Wichita getting put down a fortnight ago.

But the one that caught my eye in the Melbourne was Prince of Arran.

It was moving like a rocket at the end. Given another 20 yards and I think it might have won. Has got a place 3 years on the trot. Has lived with Enable and Stradivarius and Mohaather.

Goodish Nag, IMO.

I watched Conchita Martinez's efforts in 1994. She was on fire that tournament. Never did it before, never did it again. In a three set final, I wouldn't call a toilet break cheating. :D
I thought she had to be massaged and all that.

edit: Yes. She did:

In the second set Navratilova leapt out to a 4-0 lead. Martinez then took an injury timeout.

As for "on fire", she was using the Donnay racquet that she abandoned for a Wilson contract. Some believe her reduced results came from switching frames but she did gain weight.

As for the Date-Krumm match — her opponent took a lengthy "injury" time-out and then a long bathroom break. Hingis tried the break routine when she imploded against Graf at the French. (She threw away that match because of nerves.) In Hingis' case, though, it seemed to be more of an attempt to settle herself instead of make her opponent cold. The French crowd, though, wanted to be punitive so they jeered.

All I can tell you Just a Person is I watched the whole tournament which Conchita won.

She was hitting that ball hard backhand and with total conviction. Just blasted most of her opponents off court that year. I think she went for a twenty game set in the Semis.

Anyway. NFL aka American Football is warming up:

2020 NFL Division Standings

My 4-5 Vikes aren't dead and buried after a poor start. But we need an exceptional run of form for even a Wild-card place. But this is the fun of the whole thing. :D

I watched the beginning and the end. 1 hour 50m ! Close, wasn't it!

Great Sportsmanship and a touching closing ceremony.

I like the idea of both losing semi-finalists getting a bronze each. Makes more sense than a bronze playoff.

Had to remind myself of the rules, because I haven't played it in years. If I remember, singles made you work up a sweat. Doubles a lot gentler.

I see Sindhu won it in 2019.

Nice one.

The long rally is the 2nd. set decider at 1:09:30 isn't it? 21-20 at that point.

Okuhara had pulled off a couple of brilliant net shots just before to stay in it.

Nobody wants to see a loser in games like that. That's why I was interested in whether Sindhu came back to win a Championship later. She was in bits at the end. Defeats like that can haunt you, if you let them. You don't get too many shots at the top prizes.

I can watch most sports at the highest level. They all have so much in common for excellence. Watched a few Sports at a lower level too and just scratch my head at the clumsiness of the play. This is where a good experienced coach helps, and practice. :D

For true sportsmanship - England v Portugal, semi-final 1966. There was only one intentional foul in the whole game. When the players came off most were crying, no one lost that day - football won. Yet in the previous round Portugal kicked Brazil brutally the whole game - couldn't have happened if the ref was doping his job.

If you wanted to show a visitor from somewhere else in the universe what football really is - World Cup, Germany v Brazil 2014 - never seen anything as positive, free flowing, utterly skillful. I doubt I'll ever see another game like that, a sheer joy to watch.
