What are you drinking?

Had a friend and some family over on the terrace tonight so we had two! Oregon is a great growing region for Pinot Noir and similar grapes, and these from a small vintner did not disappoint.

200ml Coca Cola Light with 50 ml "Silverstone Rum" from Aldi's.

The label says it's a blended Rum made from imported "real overseas Rum".

Wherever that might be. Anyhow, the mix taste is ok. It's also drinkable pure, but I wouldn't recommend it this way.

For US $ 6.66 / 700ml, it's fine. Taste ok - no headache the next morning.

Real Rum connoisseurs might want to pity me now 😉

An historical note -- at the time of the American Revolution the British Navy served rum twice a day and the French wine. The French also served watered, poor quality rum (tafia) during the day. The French also baked fresh bread every day while the Brits served their sailors "hard tack" (avec weevils -- if you've ever read the Hornblower novels).

Before the Battle of Yorktown, a French sailor working in the bakery got his noggin of tafia too close to the oven and started a catastrophic fire which eventually lead to the explosion of the magazine and loss of the vessel.
On submarines, and today they give out red wine to sailors every day.
If you mean American lager, it's for flushing the system...if ya know what I mean.
Coca - Cola perfectly cleans rust in the toilet, if anyone does not know. Better than any household chemicals.

Mariposa Nights cocktail
In a cocktail blender, mix 1 part of frozen Svedka Grapefruit Jalapeno vodka with 1 part of cold white grapefruit juice. Pour into tall glass and add 1 part cold club soda. This goes well after a hot California day. It is pure joy with no regrets afterwards. It is my favorite drink for Chopin music.

How can it not be real? Rum is made from sugarcane, it's not exactly exotic. It was glamorized by bringing out the pirate in all of us.

Something tells me it hasn't been run through the charcoal a whole lot.
Real Rum connoisseurs
I'm not sure what that even means. Don't get me wrong, rum is my drink of choice especially while listening to some sweet Jimmy Buffett music. Heck, I've even been known to get my hands on the odd bottle of Appleton 21. Problem is, it costs $160 CAD ($120 USD). I can buy 70 kg of turkey for that and feed my entire condo complex for days.

Made from "real overseas rum" is a very vague term.

Treasure Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Canada are all located overseas for me.

After all, a historical looking three-master is depicted on the label to stimulate

phantasies.

Now that I think about, I'm becoming more and more certain that Captain

Flint would have hired me if he had seen me later on boarding my bed. :cloud9:

I'm also not sure what makes a real (professional?) Rum connoisseur, but I

could imagine that this bottle might not end up as the first choice on the table

at fine rum tasting events.

Thats nothing I do care about because I almost always mix those drinks with cola.

Just been looking at Oregon Pinots tonight. Youngest daughter suggested doing an online family wine testing session for christmas as we're probably not going to be able meet up then. One of my sisters has started drinking reds and has discovered Pinot Noirs (Essex girl, likes her Champagne and Chardonay🙂 It'll be nice to educate her.....
