And what did we buy today?

Today I bought at a great price a 2016 Toyota Corolla CE to replace my 2008 Toyota Yaris. The Yaris has been the best car for reliability that I've ever had bar none, but it was time to give that little Blueberry a rest and get something newer. Boy after 8 years of driving a manual then driving the Corolla with an auto trans it sure is hard to adjust as your mind and left foot want to push in the clutch whenever you are slowing down. Then I look down and it's yeah, were in D for drive, set it and forget it lol

Are you sure you haven't got your belt sander sizes mixed up, PRR? I have a 2.5" handheld, a 3" handheld, and a 4" bench sander. Can't imagine holding a 4" belt sander in my hands, the 3" is grueling.

I have a 3" Bosch and it's fine for medium duty work, but if you have real work to do, a big meaty 4" is the way to go.

I recently got me two manual lenses, the stick-shift of the camera world

I bought the Voigtlander Super Wide Angle for my M6 a while back -- nice lens. (My go to lens for that camera is a 35mm Summilux!)

I think my 2.5" was a Sears, worked fine but Sears never had the replacement belts so I got the 3.0" Porter Cable. I did manage to slice the power cord!

If you bought oil, you got fried.

50” HDR, yeah!!

I'm not bragging but that's the smallest of the 3 TV's we have. I told my wife I need them big as my eyes just aren't what they used to be and I don't feel like squinting or moving my chair closer to the screen.

I got caught in that lie about a year ago when we went for a family (discounted price) eye test and I scored better than she did.

As they say, better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Today I bought more liquor. 2nd time this week I bought enough for a month. Dog walks are a lot more fun these days and I'm getting to bed nice and early.

I bought 10 bars of dark chocolate
I am glad that women buy and eat most of the chocolate because they're not as keen on the 90% stuff. When the chocolate is close to it's 'time' they often dump it at unbelievable prices. That's when Cal the Slayer goes in for the kill, as the intent is to move it, not restrict the number of units you are allowed to buy.

Friends and family are well rewarded and...

...it freezes well.

Enjoy your cup 'o' hot.

Nice, Chris. What scope did you buy?

I bought some nice aluminum chassis and push pull connectors for some power supply projects, but have to defer my fun, as they will take about 6 weeks on the slow boat from China. Already got all of the capacitors and rectifiers.

Today's purchase is about to be a new window cable regulator for our 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000, along with new felt window channels and wipes and a few other odds and ends, which are coming from the UK, so more deferred fun.

My dad used to drive a 1750 Berlina, a couple of years older than that, maybe a '72? He loved that car, and I loved riding in it, though I never drove it. Sadly the car was killed by a careless deer, though dad was OK and always said that car saved his life because it stopped in a straight line and he couldn't see anything through the blood and battery acid on the windshield.

Edit: I see '71 was the last year for the 1750, so his must have been a '70 or '71, it had the Alfa-SPICA fuel injection.

Sounds yummy Gareth!

Bought a Keysight scope today. That will replace two old ones that are on my bench right now. Don't ask how much, it hurts and I had to talk to the bank.

nice! you deserve it Chris, times are tough, no reason to be miserable with old ‘scopes :D

The other question I’ve got pertains to this red car. Do you think posting it here means that I’ll end up buying one, i.e. does this thread work both ways, you buy you post, you post so you buy !

Cal, does the dog suspect the reason for all those walks has nothing to do with the love of fresh air ?

Going to be locked down for weeks as I'm on the list of vulnerable folk thanks to 20+ years of immune suppressants. I was driving to a convenient carpark everyday and walking 1km mostly along the beach itself before crossing the road and into the office. So 10-15 minutes gentle excercise at the beginning and end of every day (10 minutes if the weather is bad). I was getting out some lunchtimes for 40 minutes. All that's stopped so I've bought a waterrower - fingers crossed it will be delivered next week. $2500NZD I took some brave pills before typing in the credit card details for that one.

Working from home for over 5 weeks now so still being paid but still it's a bucket load of money. At least they look good and can be put out the way easily.

That's a functional work of art, Steve. It makes me want to row.

I like the reviews that say the swishing noise of the water is quite relaxing - we have an ancient Air rower in the house that belongs to my Dad who's in his late 70's he hardly ever uses it, His old air rower is noisy, bulky and I hate the fact it blows air in your face. Until now no one has been able to persuade him to let us take it to the tip where it belongs. Its worth the money just to get the old one out of the workshop where everyone is tripping over it.

Water rower can be stored vertically on its end. I'll need to get a cover knocked up for it - NZ has very high levels of UV compared to other parts of the world. That shortens the lifetime of plastics and paints quite dramatically. Other than that it needs a water sterilisation tablet every six months - I can handle that for maintenance,

Hi GKTAUDIO,
Well, something I have wanted since the first one I laid hands on in a seminar. It was a Keysight MSOX3104T with all software features turned on. Directly from Keysight. It was used, but checked out and a great deal (north of 10K Canadian). I had to buy the leads separately and got the rack mount while I was at it. It has a compartment for small stuff storage. This should allow me to sell my Tektronix 2465B CT and maybe even my Agilent 54652D. That's a really good scope and I'm not sure I want to sell it. But this would also let me sell a couple really nice Philips oscilloscopes too.

I have to start doing my repair service as a real business (again, something I didn't want to do). So I have to stop fighting with my gear and focus on things that do everything they should.

The 2465B does a great job up to 400 MHz, but it has a fat trace (eye patterns aren't as clear as I need them to be). The 2467B has an improved CRT that is sharper.

The Philips scopes have an amazing trace and are perfect for servicing CD players, but turning one on kills all FM receivers. Guess what else I fix?

The Agilent does everything wonderfully - except eye patterns. It does display them, but not clearly. I love that 'scope but for that issue.

So it was looking like three scopes on the bench, or moving them on and off. No. I can't do that and be productive.

The MSOX3104T does everything above and a ton more. It decodes serial buses and has 16 digital channels (so does the 54652D). If it weren't for the eye pattern thing, the 54652D would have satisfied my needs. In addition, I can capture a waveform on the MSOX3104T and play that back out on the built-in arb generator (!!!). A 5 digit frequency counter is included with fast update rates and a fast 3 digit DVM. Actually, the amount of features in the new scope is just amazing and should do me for many, many years. The basic scope is a 1 GHz, four channel analogue and 16 channel logic input scope with the arbitrary signal generator built in. Plus it connects to the network like all modern scopes and other instruments these days. It is a current model.

In the end I had to solve my scope issues in some way. Getting a current model was really the only clear way forward. This should clear one location on the bench for another instrument I have currently stored on a shelf. Bonus.

I do some research and development too, otherwise this instrument would have been silly overkill. The large screen is also helpful for these aging eyes. It should be here in a couple weeks (I hope!).
